Parking question for Aulani

We'll be staying at Aulani after Thanksgiving and I have a couple questions about parking. We are not DVC members and will be renting a car for our whole stay. Does the $35 per day include valet or is that for self parking? Do they charge you when you check in or at checkout? If it is valet, do you tip every time you pick up AND drop off? I've never valet parked. Thanks for any help you can give me, it's little things like this that worry me! ;)

It looks $35 per day is either one Here is what the Aulani website says.

PARKING FOR DAYTIME VISITORS
Valet parking is $35 per day; Self parking is $10 for the first hour and $5 for every half hour after that, with a maximum day rate of $35.* When you spend $35* or more at Aulani dining venues or at Laniwai Spa during a single visit, you'll get validated valet or self parking for up to 4 hours.

PARKING FOR OVERNIGHT GUESTS
There's so much to do at and around Aulani that you may not need a car! For overnight Guests who wish to park, self parking is $35 per day*—or for the same price, enjoy convenient valet parking service. Plus, Disney Vacation Club Members enjoy complimentary parking for up to 2 vehicles.

BTW, while at Aulani last month, we were told that complimentary DVC parking is only if you are staying at the resort on points. It sounds like members have come by to take a look see and wanted to park for free.

I am a DVC member who will be renting a studio with my acquired points at Aulani for my Daughter and Son-In-Law for ther 10th Wedding Aniversity. I will not be with them and they are not DVC members. Do they still have to pay the daily $35 parking fee?

I will be staying the first week of November using rented points. From my research, it seems that I will not have to pay for parking because we are using points for the stay (even if they aren't our points). I will be sure to report back on my experience in a few weeks.

It's free parking if you are staying on DVC points. It not, it's $35 a day. Now IF you spend $35 or more in a restaurant on property, it's free parking. My wife and I are DVC, we eat there when we are not staying and get our parking validated

We'll be arriving Sunday :cool1:

I have the OP's question about valet tipping. How often and how much?

usually one or 2 bucks when you pick up the car is normal.

Not to appear like a complete dunce, but my understanding is that when we first arrive a valet will quickly descend upon us and take the car. Do I give him a couple bucks? I want to have the correct amount of bills ready.

When the valets "descend" you can just simply let them know that you are DVC and will be self parking after you get checked in. They usually just direct you then where to pull off to the side and leave your car till you complete check in (at least that has been our experience both time we have arrived). That way you dont have to worry about them requiring a tip at that time.
