We will be going over to the International Gateway after leaving MGM a week from Tuesday. Could someone please tell me the best place to park so that we can avoid the mad rush after Illuminations?

I guess I am not clear on the question. There is no parking area for people who want to enter EC via the International Gateway. The Gateway entrance is for the people staying at the YC/BC, BW, S/D and for anyone taking the boat from MGM over to EC. Technicaial it is not a general entrance therefore there is no "park parking lot" so to speak.

Are you staying on property? If so take the bus to MGM then take the boat over to EC when you are ready and then take the bus back to your resort from the front of EC.

Missing the Illuminations rush is impossiable to do if you stay to see the entire show. Even when we have stayed at the one of the deluxe EC resorts there is a crowd.

The other thing would be to park at MGM take the boat over to EC and then take the boat back to MGM after Illuminations. The only thing with this is I am not 100% sure if the boats run back to MGM if you are there on a night when MGM closes before EC.

Another way to beat the rush is to not be in a hurry to leave after Illuminations. After it ends, just stay put for 10 - 15 minutes. It's very pleasant to walk leisurely thru WS without the rush of people. By the time you get to the front, the first mad rrush of people have left from the parking lot and buses. We used to rush to get out, but a long time ago, we decided to take it easy instead. You will get to your resort about the same time without feeling like you have been thru the mill.
On our last trip, in July, we watched from one of the terraced areas on the bridge between France and the UK. The only bad thing about it, was that a large group of the people who were standing right along the fence left before the show was over. As they left, they bumped into people because the lights were still out and they interfered with otherr people's ability to see the rest of the show. So, anyone who is planning to leave early, should pick a spot where they can get out easily without inconveniencing anyone else.
