Parking Lot Name Changes at the Magic Kingdom

I have to agree with the first poster on that link. Why?

Personally, I liked the old names. I'm all for progress, but the old parking lot names were a nice link to the movies that built Disney.

I understand they're making the named areas smaller to make it "easier" to remember where you parked ... but it's worked for 40 years and now you have tons of apps to help you remember where you parked :confused3

I have been watching the changes for awhile now. They are hoping to get people back out to their cars quicker at the end of the day. I will be there tomorrow morning when it goes live. :)

There is a great story in Lee Cockerell's book about the parking lots.

Another time the parking lot attendants came up with an ingenious solution to the perpetual problem of Guests’ being unable to find their cars after a long day of entertainment. Each attendant now has a diagram of the vast parking lot. Systematically, the attendants note what time each section fills up. When Guests can’t remember where they parked, they’re asked, “What time did you arrive?” This narrows down the possible locations tremendously, and the Guests are taken in golf carts to find their cars.

I was busy with a visiting friend once when I parked the car. I realized I didn't remember the row. I asked a CM and they got me exactly to the row. :)

What is it with Disney always cutting Mickey out?

Do they not know what people expect at Disney World?

Zurg? Really?

I barely know who he is...and I only know it because I'm very into Disney World. Most people won't.

But they know Mickey and Donald.

Just another of many small let-downs.

I know It's just nostalgia... but I'm also not extremely happy about this idea. the lot wasn't that confusing, and with the advent of camera phones and the "take a picture of your row" advice quickly becoming common knowledge and mentioned in every single Disney tip list, I'm not sure if i see the real advantage.

OK.... I can understand actually running different tram routes to each side of the lot if they were trying to speed up the exodus at the end of the day. And it's been awhile since I paid attention, but weren't the 2 sides already pretty much differentiated by the "6" Dwarfs on one side and the Classic Disney on the other?

For some reason or other, this reminds me of the Yellow VW episode at DL.

The main reason is they now have two tram load/unload areas at the TTC instead of one. This way Guests can get the correct tram to where they are parked. With this new procedure in place it does make sense to rename the parking areas. Also each area is now smaller, with fewer rows.
