When we got to Port in October DH dropped DS & I off to check in while he parked the car. As we were checking in he called my cell phone and said they didn't accept American Express (the only card we had with us). I had all the money with me, so had to go down & give it to him and then go thru security again. All the sites I have gone to say cash or credit card. None say anything about no American Express. Just a heads up.

Anyone else have any experience with any other credit cards. We will be going again in November and need to know if I should plan on cash or if & what other cards really are accepted.

AX has higher fees than Visa or MC, so lots of businesses have made the decision not to accept it.

My wife sells hand turned pens and doesn't accept AX. She has not lost a single sale due to her decision.

I've seen that both with Discover and American Express. I'm running into more and more businesses that are going cash only. Even places like auto repair places where the bill can be pretty hefty. Of course the owner pointed out many of his customers are seniors who grew up in the depression and don't believe in credit cards. Alot pay cash for everything, including their cars AND their houses.

Call the port before you go on the next cruise just to verify what credit cards they are currently taking. I used a Visa card for parking and didn't have an issue. However, I will call just to confirm right before the next trip.

Seriously, if you want to use credit cards, you really need to have a Visa or Mastercard as a backup to AMEX and Discover.

OP - I really just looked at your avatar. Your BC looks just like mine, absolutely beautiful. :thumbsup2

Discover hasn't been accepted by many companies for years due to the fees that they charge to process a charge. Thanks for letting us know. I have updated the DCL FAQ with this info. :)

here's the link to PC parking info - it looks like PC changed their URL recently....

and from that site

Parking at Port Canaveral's cruise terminals is paved, gated and under 24-hour surveillance. Passengers at Cruise Terminal 10 can choose between an outdoor parking area and a six-level parking garage.

Parking Fees
$15/night for vehicles up to 20 feet in length
$26/night for vehicles over 20 feet
The total fee for the time the vehicle will be parked is due on entry. We accept cash, Visa, Mastercard and Traveler's Checks issued in U.S. dollars.

Parking for the Disabled
Special parking spaces are provided. The parking fee is waived for vehicles that:
1. Have special equipment such as ramps, lifts, foot or hand controls; or
2. Display the Florida Toll Exemption permit. (Call 800-983-2435 ext. 2 to apply for an exemption form.)

Gee, I thought all DIS folks had the Disney credit card. It is a Visa and the port will accept it. Plus you earn points for your next Disney trip.

Not surprising. I always have a backup plan in case my AM Ex is not accepted.

Actually I'm running into more and more places (especially smaller independantly owned stores) that charge the customer for accepting credit cards.
The gas station with the best prices charges 50¢ extra if you use a CC, DD's favorite little toy shop charges a fee if you use a CC for a purchase under $50, etc.

Don't know if they could get in trouble with the CC company if they were reported, but I do understand their frustration with the added fees, and I believe Am Ex and Discover are the worst offenders.

If Chase didn't operate it then more would probably have it. They just increased the rates and minimum payment for just about everyone according to posts and Chase doesn't exactly operate the best financial company. We finally got away from their mortgage department by refinancing and our attorney getting involved to have them reverse a $5000 charge that was made by them due to their poor record keeping on our file. :sad2: We do enjoy the Disney rewards dollars now but I keep a very close eye on our account because I don't trust them.

My sentiments exactly. I got a Disney Visa card when they first came out (we had the "Since Day One" line on our card). When they tried to change the terms of our account, we canceled. This was several years ago. I avoid doing business with Chase.

My 2 cents (4 cents if Chase has anything to do with it....:rotfl:)

P.S. My DW is also a Transcriptionist.

It isn't against the rules to charge a fee for accepting credit cards - it is against them to charge an exhorbitant fee - most companies charge the amount that they will be charged by the cc companies. Amex and Discover do have the highest fees out there which is why more and more places are not accepting them.

Thanks for this link. Couldn't find search and Cruise Line said cash and credit cards, not which ones.

Don't want this credit card. Use AmEx because I have to pay it off the next month.

The fee that gets me is when stores and gas stations charge 45 cents for a debit purchase. You're charging me to directly from my bank account to your bank account? You don't have to go to the bank and deposit the money, you don't have to make change and you're charging me extra?
Needless to say, my gasoline purchases are all in cash.

I know we learned our lesson this weekend, went to the movies, didn't have cash (running late....not my fault..I swear...lol) anyway I used my Visa Debit card and they charged me a .99 cent fee for using it!! Its a Debit card they are guaranteed their money and I am supporting thier business.

Even though you used a Visa debit/check card, the business will still be charged the same fees from Visa as they would for a credit card.

For our very first cruise, about ten years ago, the parking lot only accepted cash! That was very inconvenient and it wasn't stated anywhere. We were thrilled they started to take credit cards. Another word to the wise: last time we went, I dropped off my husband with all the stuff, and I went to park the car and pay the parking. I had given my husband everything, including my drivers license!! They wouldn't let me back to the terminal and my DH had to come all the way back out to let me in!! Stupid on my part, but I guess I was just too excited to think!

That is true, but as a consumer I have the right not to frequent that business and I won't anymore because they did not disclose that "fee" info untill she handed me the slip to sign. Knowing most people would not make an issue of it and just sign it. (out for a relaxing night with other couples who is really gonna be the mizer that whines about .99 cents) I don't have a choice about the fees but I do have a choice were I spend my future dollars.

IMHO..the fees will slowing decrease in the future because no one will be using the debit cards anymore simple cause and effect.

I did not know they now took credit cards. :confused3 I thought it was still cash or nothing. I am only a little behind the times. Thank you for letting us know.
