Parking at the Contemporary for MK

We were just down for a weekend. On Thursday and Friday morning, the guards at the gate waved us in with our Old Key West parking pass. On Saturday they stopped us and asked what we were doing at the Contemporary. My husband told them that we were having breakfast at Chef Mickey's (Lie). He said very good then, when are our reservations? I knew my husband was speechless, so I chimed in "we didn't make any". They gave us a 3 hour parking pass and we had to park in a special lot! We were not prepared for this. After we talked over what could they do if we didn't come back in 3 hours, my husband just decided to move the car to the regular lot. We got this parking idea on this board. Its free either way, but when parking at the Contemporary, you save time. Just wanted to warn any one that either does it or plans to try it.

It has been that way for several years, if it is busy season. You are not allowed to park at a resort for theme park access. Parking abuse, especially at the Poly, often made it next to impossible for guests at that resort to find a parking spot.

Uh-oh....this could start something ;)
You should go to the parking lot you were directed to by the guard for short-term parking for PS/Shopping etc. The other parking lot is for Contemporary guests.....it's a no-no to use the parking lot to enter the MK for the day. I feel that if enough people abuse this temporary parking privlege, then it will be taken away and ruined for everyone who wants to hop over to that resort for a last minute meal or shopping and use the short-term parking legitimately. :sad2:
Rigsby25, maybe you weren't aware of the policy and how much of a problem this can be for Contemporary guests trying to find parking ? Hope you had a nice visit to OKW :wave2:

You got this parking idea on this board? Usually anyone who suggests this is pounced on as a rule breaker.

Seems like they should stop you. I hate to see people abusing BCV or BWV parking to go to Epcot. Doesn't seem like a good plan to use Contemporary parking for MK to me. Please note the other thread where SSR guests are concerned about peole using DTD and SSR transportation to avoid a small parking fee. http://disboards.com/showthread.php?t=745898
Beside, you can park free at the MK parking, right?

Debbie...I believe the OP was referring to the DIS board, not the DIS DVC board.

Specifically, these kind of "tips" have been provided on the Budget Board, and sometimes on the Park Strategies & Attractions Board. I'm refraining from flaming the OP, and just hope this thread will be moved or locked.

I was not trying to flame the OP, I think they just misunderstood. I don't think this was ever condoned on any DIS board.

Debbie...I wish that were true, but as I've stated, I've seen this kind of tip many times on the DIS boards. Just not on the DVC board. Sad but true.

I've seen this tip posted before also (don't remember which board). I wonder if anyone has ever gotten towed before for parking beyond the 3 hour limit?

When I've seen it other places (including the budget board and theme parks board) its generally been disapproved of - there are always a few "hey, if you don't get caught" folks. And people mention that you can and may be towed. Hey, on the budget board there are people who flame you for reusing your resort mugs!

I've seen it on other boards more in terms of "Can I have breakfast at Chef Mickey's and then leave my car there while I go to MK?", not just straight parking there without entering the hotel. That's going too far.

I think this was asked before, but I don't think it was answered. Being a DVC member entitles us to free parking at the parks, or doesn't it? :confused3

The parks, yes. But not hotels other than the resort you are staying at.

DVC members do get free valet at other dvc resorts (plus tip, of course).

Free parking at the theme parks is a benefit of staying at an on site resort. OKW, BWV, BCV, VWL & SSR are all considered on site resorts and so guests there (DVC or not) are entitled to free parking at the theme parks.

Just being a DVC member does not entitle you to park for free at the theme parks. You have to be staying at an on site resort.

Best wishes -

OK, can you then valet park at the CR, BW, YC/BC, etc. and go to the park all day....?
