Parking at the Boardwalk

Guilty of that as well. We enjoy the nice peaceful boat trip to and from MGM...get a nice view of the area from a different prospective... Again, never realized you weren't supposed to do this. But I guess until or unless Disney tells me we can't do that, I'll keep taking the boat.
Actually, I think that Disney has already told you that you cannot do that. The signage at the entrance to the BW complex and the parking lot across the street indicates that parking is provided for resort guests and visitors to the BW entertainment complex. If you pull up to the guard shack and tell the guard that you are arriving to check-in or visit the BW, the guard will direct you accordingly and depending on how busy things are. At busy times, visitors to the BW entertainment complex will usually be directed to the parking lot across the street, unless they indicate that they plan to valet park (there is a $6 fee, but the guard could not actually stop you from saying you'll valet park and then having you check the self-park area for available space, but I'm assuming you mean it when you say "...unless Disney tells me we can't do that..."). If it's a less busy time of year, the guard may direct you to the self-park area rather than the lot across the street. If you tell the guard you want to park at the BW and take the boat to MGM, you will likely be told that parking is for BW guests and visitors and suggest you park in the MGM lot. Note that guests at Disney resorts can park for free in the park lots, and the MGM lot is a very short drive from the BW. If you drive directly to the self-park lot across the street from the BW, you can certainly park there and walk over the BW and then take the boat to MGM, but this will not change what the signage says about parking for resort guests and BW entertainment complex visitors.

Maybe I'm just not in the mood to explain my whole plan for the day with the guy in the booth. They let me park there, so I get the best spot. Spend some time onthe BW, then take the boat to MGM. I don't like a lot of rules when I'm on vacation. If the system is broke, they can fix it.

Have a Disney Day.

They probably should put up some signs directing the Boardwalk visitors to that parking lot,

They did have a sign up at times when I was there at the beginning of December. At the intersection where you turn left into the main parking lot, there was a sign that read "Boardwalk Parking" and a straight arrow.

I have seen them back people out of the guard station at the main lot. I assume they then went across the street (or left). I don't think there is a guard station at the lot across the street.

If you are staying at a WDW resort, I think they are more likely to accomodate you because they know you aren't parking there to avoid the park parking fee.

Well I guess what I'm saying is that they need to make it really clear which is the Boardwalk resort entrance and which is the Boardwalk entertainment entrance- like big light up signs in front of both entrances, and make a separate entrance for people walking from the lot across the street into the complex and stuff.

Hmmm, with 340 posts to these boards you've never run across a thread about parking at a resort to access a park?

Sorry to be dense about this, but we're going to WDW for the first time and staying at the AKL but would like to go to the Boardwalk to look at the stores and for a chance to rent and ride one of those Surrey bikes with our 2-year old son. Will I be allowed to park at the lot across (?) the street from the main BW parking lot? How far of a walk would it be? I'll have a stroller for my son but would like to get a general idea of how much of a hike it would be.

Thanks.

P.S. I don't think we'll be there for more than 3 hours, probably even less.
