We are off to Florida for the first time in April - can anyone offer any hints/suggestions about the bset approach to car parking at Gatwick ? Is it cheaper/safer to leave the car at the airport or will at hotel nearby allow you to leave the car there if you are staying prior to the holiday ?
Any ideas would be welcome
Cheers

Hello, and welcome to the DIS :wave2:

There are several Gatwick hotels which include 2 weeks' free parking with one night's stay. We've stayed at the Gatwick Hilton which has the added benefit of being connected by a covered walkway to the South Terminal.

These days, we use a hire car. The drop-off point (and the pick-up for the homeward run) is right outside the main entrance to the South Terminal. If you go down this route, just make sure the car you book for the journey home is big enough for all your luggage - you will come home with more than you went with! :teeth:

UKDEB, is there a specific hire car co. you use that has the drop-off outside the terminal, or do they all? We are going for three weeks and it may well be cheaper to hire a car rather than park.

We usually use National, but there are several others all at the same location - Alamo, Europcar, Hertz and Avis (I think).

Hi

We booked a hotel and car parking for 3 weeks through Abc Holidays
On the website they say that they only include 15 nights parking but we just rang them direct and they sorted it out. I think they do parking only too.
The car was in the car park right next to the hotel which was the Gatwick Hilton.

Norbert,

We regularly use APH who are about 15 minutes away by shuttle bus. Prices have always been fairly reasonable (3 weeks for just over £70) I seem to remember.

Its a secure compound and I woudn't have thought there would be any security issues with them.

The pick up is pretty efficient as well. Never had to wait that long.

We're flying from Gatwick on 30th March, parking for 15 days and have booked with APH costing £69.30, I believe its the same price for 21/22 days.
We're travelling the night before and staying at a travelodge on the way,(to break journey up) which is costing us £5 for the ROOM

Thanks for all your suggestions - I'll check them out along with the following which a colleague at work suggested
http://www.happyparking.com
and then I'll get it booked up.
After that I can move on to the next thing on my list - the itinerary for the two weeks !!

In December, we tried http://www.executive-parking.co.uk/ on recommendation from a couple of posters - we were able to drive to the South Terminal where our car was taken off for us and once we returned, we called them once past customs ands they returned the car to the same spot!

This was great for us and very reasonably priced - the only thing you do need to do, when you are heading to the airport in your car, is liase with them by mobile should you be arriving at a different time than you've stated. The drop off point is being 'policed' by wardens and they will move you on if you pull up and park for any length of time.

You can fill out a form online - no payment details required - and then you will receive a call from them and at this point you'll give your CC details and they'll explain the procedure.

Norbert Of Penge - welcome to the DIS - love your user name :teeth: !!

Well the parking/hotel is sorted thanks for all the suggestions -
as Silverka2002 said the sites are all the same price and we plumped for the Holiday Inn at Gatwick (Based on availability as much as anything else)

As for the name it was that or "The_Cleft_Chinned_Crab" - I think Norbert was the right choice :)

We have stayed with 15 days parking included for £110 and £130 at the Gatwick Europa and the Copthorne Effingham Park. Both were fine. Watch shuttle times though. One went every hour, which can be annoying if you miss one, but the CEPark also had a two hour lunch break! That might not matter but if your flight arrival is over that time be careful. Some shuttles also stop, or are few and far between overnight.

This time we are having a taxi take and collect us. From Cornwall its not cheap,£250, but we won't have to pay for the hotel, parking, petrol or motorway food so I guess for the convenience of collection and delivery we are paying about £50.
