Our local airport offers cheap flights to SFB in Orlando. To fly to MCO we would have to travel to an airport 3 hours from our home and stay overnight. I'm trying to decide if we want to do that, or just fly to SFB and rent a car (nearly as cheap as shuttle service).

Is it beneficial having a car at the resort? We plan on staying at POP or AoA. We will be there from May 22 through May 28 and really want to hit all of the non-water parks. We will have a 6 year old in tow as well, so we'll probably need to have some mid-day rest time at the hotel. This is our first Disney trip.

Well factoring in that a shuttle from SFB will be about $200 plus tip and a rental car will be less than that and give you freedom I would go with a rental car. It is so much easier when you are tired to hop in a car and go. Not have to wait on a bus and possibly have to stand the entire ride since values are the most popular and have fuller buses. If for some reason you need to travel off site for say drug store run or groceries you can. Plus you are traveling during a week that butts up to a holiday weekend and parks will be crowded. As your trip gets closer rental car prices will go down. All of my trips I have booked a car about 2 weeks before my trip because that is when I found the best prices

Rent a car. That way you can stop for any, groceries you may way. Or drive to the parks. We always rent a car.

I also vote "Rental Car" as it is more economical than a paid shuttle service, even if you just keep it parked 7 days. But where it really comes in handy is visiting other resorts, either to take in the decorations or for specialty dining. It is so much easier to drive directly than bus to a park or DTD and transfer. Or you may decide to eat offsite, which can save money. There's really nice Buffalo Wild Wings on International Drive near Sea World, great deal if you go on "Wing Tuesday". Or Texas Roadhouse on 192 is good also.

Get a car, I always get a rental. last time we did not have a car was in 98. Will never go again without one.

I doubt we'll spend much time at all off property! Myself and our daughter have never been to Disney. My husband hasn't been since he was a kid. We probably won't be able to do a trip like this again for another 5 years or so, so I definitely want to make the most of it!

But I can definitely see how it would be good to have if we need to run to Target for anything we left behind!
