Hi all!
We are driving into Dallas to catch a flight to MCO in June. We have never driven to DFW, only flown thru it. Wondering about the parking situation there. Is it better to park on-site or off. Do you get much hail in Dallas in June, should we spring the extra $$$ for covered parking?

Any information would be much appreciated!
Thanks,
Kathy

You certainly will save $$ by parking off-site. The parking situation at DFW has never been wonderful and got worse after 9/11. We live about 15 minutes north of the airport and always have 9-13 people going. Our strategy is to take everyone and the luggage to the airport, check in at the curb, and then have a couple people drive the cars home and take a cab back. When we return, we just take a cab. Since we're close, the cab fare is cheaper than paying for close-in parking and more convenient than long-term parking for about the same price. As for hail, I would not bet anything important to me that it won't happen, but it is unusual.

We flew out of DFW in March. We opted to drive in the day before our 8 a.m. flight. We checked with the hotel we stayed at, and they gave us a sticker and allowed us to leave our car in their parking lot, take their shuttle to the airport, and then picked us up in their shuttle the next week. There was NO CHARGE for our parking - just the cost of our two rooms the night before! It worked great!

I think I must live very close to pwoodham. I live, also, about 15 minutes north of the airport.
There are about 3 or 4 parking garages on 183 around Freeport Parkway, our favorite there is the Parking Spot. There is also a good, very large parking facility on 635 that I forgot the name of (pass it twice a day M-F, pretty sad huh?)
All are about the same price, free paper, etc. I have used them all and have been very pleased. I will never park actually at the airport again. DFW shuttle are a million times worse than the off-site ones.

Thanks for the input! I was wondering if either the Parking Spot or the Park N Fly were any good. It sounds like the DFW shuttles are a huge hassle.

BTW, do we need ressies for the offsite parking?

We have a 6 hr drive in the morning to get to DFW and our flight leaves in the afternoon. I wanted to try and minimize any surprises that might delay us!

Thanks for all the help,
Kathy

I verified on my way to work this morning that it is "Park n' Fly" just off of Royal Lane on 635. Like I said earlier, I have used both The Parking Spot and Park n' Fly and been equally happy.
I do not make reservation and have never remotely had a problem getting in, Thanksgiving might be another situation though.

M&M's mom - You are close to me!! We're in Flower Mound also!

Pwoodham - I just have to make the small world cliche.
Too Funny!

DH used to use Park N Fly a lot, he likes it and says its a reasonable price (comparatively) and its easy to get to and from the airport. I think we are going to use it for our next trip.

Hail is pretty unheard of past April/May

Thanks to all!
BTW, The Parking Spot has an internet coupon for 20% off at www.longtermparking.com

The covered parking is only $1.60/day more so we'll just go with that. If something did happen, and we hadn't parked in covered parking, I'd never hear the end of it!!! :D

Thanks once again, glad to get all the input about parking at DFW!
Kathy
