parking at Contemporary

So, I valet park and then walk into the Food and Fun Center (or whatever they call it now), purchase a coke and walk over to the MK for the rest of the day.

Not the intent of valet parking at all. Dine there, lodge there, valet park there. Head to the theme park, park in the TTC.

This last statement is your opinion. Disney doesn't want to say no to their customers. They want to make their customers happy. If valet parking has room and a customer wants to pay to use the service Disney would be crazy to say no.

Even though they post signs at the entrance to the resort by the guard shack that states they are sorry but they cannot provide parking for the theme parks???

I guess I was not clear in my previous reply. Since the OP said she is staying offsite she would have to pay $11.00 for parking at the TTC. If she were to valet park at the Contemporary for her meal at Chef Mickey's, it would be $10.00 + a $2.00 or $3.00 tip. So when you add up the prices it costs more to valet park then to park at the TTC.

For those who valet at the Contemporary rather than pay to park at the TTC, it's NOT about the cost. It is about the convenience. I've never found this to be a problem for anyone other than some guests of the Contemporary. For some strange reason, some guests of the Contemporary sometimes seem to be upset by it. I can't imagine why though.

In my opinion, which is admittedly no more important than yours, yes. Disney makes the rules and Disney has the choice to change the rules or only enforce the rules when they see fit. They also have the choice to decide that those signs mean they don't provide parking if one is only traveling to the theme parks but will provide parking if someone is dining first. Or they can decide that it is not okay to park in the regular lots and go to the theme park but it is fine to valet park.

I have personally been told by two different valet parking places that I could indeed valet park at the resort, eat and go to the Magic Kingdom afterward. Others on this board have called and spoken to the person in charge of valet at the CR and been given the information that most of the time they allow anyone to use valet. They will close valet to hotel guests (and those with ADRs) only on busy days and when a convention is impacting the resort.

You were being facetious, correct? I can't imagine why any guest trying to self park at the resort they paid big bucks to stay at would mind another guest who didn't stay at that resort taking the last parking place in the lot.

If a guest is going to the Contemporary and parks in the self parking lot and goes to the Magic Kingdom, they are taking up a parking spot from a Contemporary guest who is paying a lot of $ to stay there and since there are less spots because of the North Garden Wing demolition, it's harder to park at the Contemporary. So in that case they have a right to be upset. I also say that the valet parking should count just as much as the self parking, because they are technically leaving their car at the Contemporary and going to the Magic Kingdom which is not allowed. The sign which says "We Are Unable to Provide Parking for Park Access" does not give an expection to the guests who valet park making it ok.

Nope, not being facetious in the least. Does the Contemporary allow their guests to self-park in the area specifically alloted for valet parking? If so,then that is a fairly recent change. If not, then non-guests using the valet parking have absolutely no impact on available self-parking spaces.

If it's against some rule, then I'm certain that someone will be sure to take down the offenders tag number and register a complaint. Perhaps if the complainer is having a really lucky day, they might manage to get someone's car towed. Now that's a magical vacation!

I just got back... we always valet parked when we needed to go to MK.
Sometimes CR sometimes GF..once the poly...it was never a problem, we always asked first and it was fine...We also always valet at BC when we watch illumiations..again never been a problem.

Perhaps you and I aren't talking about the same thing here. I am talking about valet parking only. I believe that you are most likely talking about the self-parking lot. Non-guests parking in the self-parking lot while they go to MK would be wrong. On that point at least, we seem to be in agreement.

On the other hand, I have never seen the valet parking area full. Are you suggesting that as a guest at the Contemporary, you have been unable to valet park due to the number of non-guests using the valet parking services? If that is not the case, then, indeed, I am unable to understand why you would care if the people using valet services at the Contemporary are registered gurests or not, regardless of the fact that they may in fact, be at MK for the day.

We still went over to the Magic Kingdom when we finished eating. I never saw cars being towed. One day we did have a problem with the guard. My sister put the reservations under the wrong last name. He could not find us so he would not let us park. He was very rude about it so I called and complained.

I think you took a huge risk by going to the Magic Kingdom and I am disappointed you decided to take up a spot which could have been used for a Contemporary guest once you're meal was done. Not to mention you had a 3 hour parking pass, so obviously they did not want you parking there after you're meal. As for the guard being rude, the way I see it he was doing his job. If they are just letting people park who were staying there and with ADR's, maybe he assumed you did not have one which is why he would not let you park.

he's a security guard; large part of his duties entails keeping parking scoflaws out of the limited number of spots reserved for onsite guests and those who need a 3 hour parking pass to dine, use resort facilities.

imagine the outcry if a person with ill intent was allowed to park a car devised to be destructive. FYI, the hotel has hosted presidents, other dignitaries @ convention facilities.

from our balcony last Oct before Wishes we did observe 2 tow trucks in the lot; cannot say why they were towing.

May I just ask what is a scoflaws? Also,an ill intent person can park their car in any number of hotel parking lots to be destructive. Average Disney people are just as important. I also don't think I would be parking anywhere near the Contemporary if the President was in the Hotel. Even if I had reservations!!

I do not go to the Contemporary for Magic Kingdom parking. I had a dinner reservation. The guard was extremly rude. We had a resort pass. We had our room key. We were there for the reason we stated. Guards at other hotels were fine. This particular guard did not handle the situation well. Sometimes workers need to be told a better way on how to handle problems. I am sorry you thought you're $130.00 meal was horrible and that you had a bad experience with the security guard, when they were just doing their job and were told if people who were not guests of the Contemporary without an ADR to not let them park. It's not his fault that they could not find you're name on the ADR list. However that still does not make it right to go off to the Magic Kingdom and leaving you're car parked at the Contemporary in the self parking lot, when they have signs which say it's not allowed.

"We regret we are unable to" is less powerful than "we cannot", "we do not", or any other absolute phraseology. IMO, Disney is trying to compromise between getting the point across without coming right out and saying, "Don't be ridiculous, you can't park here".

A huge section of parking sapces has been fenced off due to the demoliton of the North Garden Wing, so I would assume it is being used for dumpsters and so the workers can move other things around.

Fair enough. On the other hand, from your description, (a) at least some spaces adjacent to the North Garden Building are available and (b) with that wing demolished, the Contemporary needs fewer parking spaces for its Guests. I am NOT using this as an argument for allowing non-Contemporary Guests to park there for other than brief, directly-resort-related reasons.
