Hi guys!
We will be arriving at Disney next Sat night and would like to visit the Poly for dinner. Last time we visited we had to have a reservation for dinner to park at the poly so I currently have a Kona reservation. I'm a little worried about the timeline for our arrival and making our reservation. Does a mobile order for Captain Cooks "count" as a reservation? Would I be able to cancel Kona, and do a mobile order for the quick service closer to when we arrive and be allowed past security? Or is it better to keep Kona?

Thanks!

The last time we were there, we did a mobile takeout order from Kona. We told the guard that we were planning on doing an order from Kona and they let us in with no problem. Now, as everything goes, you might get a guard that is a stickler for the rules, but I've never had any issues telling the guards at any of the hotels that we were grabbing food from the quick service!

It's definitely a case of "your mileage may vary". There are a lot of people who lie (shocking, I know!) and tell the guard that they just want to eat QS and check out the resort. Then they park for hours, take Disney transportation to the parks and avoid the parking fees at the parks.

This is a big problem at the near-park resorts like the Poly. So, guards are not supposed to allow vehicles into the resort if one of the occupants does not have an ADR. When we were staying at VGF this past December, we had to produce our MagicBand for scanning if we arrived by Uber even though we were staying there and were just returning to our room.

Our experiene this trip was very different from the past (I was there last week - 5/30-6/4). We DID have a morning reservation for Kona and when we got to the gate, the guard asked to see my drivers license but did not check it against any list or anything and just said "ok, have a great day". The same thing happened when we went to AKL for our Jiko dinner. It became a joke with my family - Disney is just making sure I can legally drive??? :rotfl2: Now at the Contemporary, they did more checking but my boys were staying at BLT so we were just either dropping them off or picking them up or meeting them for something and the guard did look up their room number.

Previous trips they always verified our reservations, but this trip they just looked at my ID, and not even that closely so not sure what the point was.....🤷‍♀️ Of course your experience could be completely different.

It really does depend on the guard. I have had friends turned away even after showing a mobile order screen where they'd clicked "I'm here, prepare my order" (meaning it's already charged to their card). The only way to be 100% sure you will be allowed in not arriving by Disney transportation (without staying at the resort) is to have an ADR.
