I've read a lot of conflicting things on this subject so I thought I'd ask here.

I don't expect anyone to know exactly how long things take or anything. But a rough estimation would be nice.

1. How long does it typically take to get from Port Orleans Riverside to the Magic Kingdom?

2. Is it quicker to go between the Magic Kingdom and EPCOT on the monorail or by bus?

3. About how much time does it take between each park?

4. Does it waste a lot of time to park hop once or twice during the day?

We are going in the middle of January so we're hoping the parks a little less crowded and therefore maybe the buses won't be as crowded so we won't have to wait as long. But really...I have no idea what it's going to be like. I haven't been to Disneyworld since 1995.

Take the monorail to Epcot it is quicker and easier, though a bit smelly LOL.
It can take 20 to 45 min for bus rides between spots depending on whether there are other stops etc. From the Magic Kingdom to the Trans. and ticket center I prefer the ferry then the Monorail.
Park hopping is worth the time it takes. Of coure this may not be true if all the parks are really closing early.
If you go to DTD be sure to take the boat from POR it is a nice trip, unless it is chilly out, then take a bus.

1.If you mean by car,you can go from any point on Disney property to anywhere else in 10-20 minutes, from POR to MK maximum 15 minutes. Here's a link of the WDW map.

2.From MK entrance to the EPCOT entrance you can only go via monorail, you need to take the monorail or ferry from the MK entrance to the Ticket and Transportation center and from there take the EPCOT monorail to EPCOT.

You could also take a bus from the MK entrance to either the Beach Club or Boardwalk resort and from there it's a 5 minute walk to EPCOT's International Gateway(EPCOT'S BACK GATE).There are boats as well if you want to avoid the 5 minute walk.

3.Like I said before,if you're getting from park to park by car I'll be anywhere between 10-20 minutes,if you're taking a bus you have to add the wait time for the bus. From MK to EPCOT the monorails come very frequently but since you have to transfer at the TTC it adds to the wait. One thing I do sometimes to avoid the transfer when I'm leaving a park for the MK I sometimes rather wait for a bus to the Contemporary resort since from there to the MK entrance is a 5 minute walk. This is not necessarily faster as buses can have 20 minute waits sometimes, but I do it for a change.

4.If you're going during a slow season such as in January,I suggest park hopping.Starting out the day in one park and finishing in a park where you might want to see the nighttime shows,Wishes, Illuminations,Fantasmic,Spectromagic.Unless you're somebody who only wants to do a couple of attractions at each park, like a local, I wouldn't do 3 parks in one day, although in January it's definitely doable. To shorten your transportation time maybe use your car between the first and second park to avoid the wait time.
