I was on the phone with Disney Reservations the other day and the CM noticed that we were purchasing a 10 day hopper no expiration. She asked if we had tickets already that we were using for this trip, and I said no, that we were going to use 3 or 4 days off of the hopper.

She told me we should take off the no expiration option (about $135 she said) and then use our 3 or 4 days on our trip and then add the no expiration option to the days that are remaining on our passes before we leave.

It sounds like a good idea, but I just wanted to check with all you experts here on the DIS. Have you done this? Where would I go to add the no expiration option while at WDW?

Right now I have taken the no expiration option off, but it would be a major waste if I was unable to add the no expiration option to the 6 or 7 days left before we left WDW.

Thanks!

You can add the no exp (prior to the 14 day from original use) You will however pay for no exp for the all of the original days of the tickets ie 10 day ticket 10 no exp price. not the days left on the tickets.

Sorry

It would be interesting to know what the CMs logic was behind that. :confused3
Pay for No Expiration now or later. What's the difference? :confused3

Okay -- what am I misunderstanding?
The no expire option costs the same no matter how many days are on a ticket.
So what is the difference to have it at the beginning or end of a trip? :confused3

Never mind! Okay -- see I think I learned something --- the option does decrease by the number of days remaining.

according to the people I have talked to , this CM was wrong. If you have a 10 day hopper and use 6 days, then go at end of trip and add Non-expiry to the ticket you will be charged for the ORIGINAL amount of days on the ticket purchased not what is left.

That is my understanding as well. If you don't have it in writing, explicitly as you were told, then don't count on it.

the price does NOT decrease by the number of days remaining... the price to add the no-expiry options is tied to the original number of days on the ticket... we added no-expiry at the end of our trip last august/sept and it was no diff't cost wise than if we had added it at the beginning of our trip... and mine/ds' had only 3 days left but dh/dd had 4 days and theirs was the same cost as ours ($104/ticket) (we waited because we wanted to see how many days we had left... if it were 2 days or less it would not be worth it, but for 3 or more it was)

unless something has changed since last september, the price of the no-expiry option is directly tied to the original number of days on the ticket...

No Expiration Option - Regular Magic Your Way Tickets expire 14 days after their first use. Choosing the No Expiration option means you are free to come back and take advantage of unused days at any time. Extra cost on top of the base-price ticket is:

1-day ticket 2-day ticket 3-day ticket 4-day ticket 5-day ticket
n/a $10 $10 $20 $40
($10.65 w/tax) ($10.65 w/tax) ($21.30 w/tax) ($42.60 w/tax)

6-day ticket 7-day ticket 8-day ticket 9-day ticket 10-day ticket
$50 $65 $110 $130 $135
($53.25 w/tax) ($69.23 w/tax) ($117.15 w/tax) ($138.45 w/tax) ($143.78 w/tax)

The No Expiration Option can be added after the initial ticket purchase, but you'll have to pay the full upgrade based on the original length of the ticket. For instance, if you buy a 7-day ticket and decide on the 5th day of your vacation that you won't be using the rest of the ticket on this trip, you can add No Expiration for $65 plus tax and use the remaining 2 days on a future trip. Such upgrades are allowed within the first 14 days (day of first use plus 13 days).

you'll have to pay the full upgrade based on the original length of the ticket.
That's the clincher. And makes sense. Otherwise they would be over run with guests waiting until the last day or two of their trip and adding the NE feature.
