Park tickets before hotel reservation?

I’m not sure where to ask this question, so I’m hoping someone can help me.

We rented DVC point with my parents and will be staying in a 2 bedroom villa at BLT for 5 nights. We plan on getting a 5 day park hopper added to our reservation.

My family will be arriving 2 days prior to my parents and I booked a room only package at Port Orleans. It was super expensive to add 1 park day to our Port Orleans reservation.

My question is can I buy a 6 day park hopper tied to my BLT reservation and use it 1 day before we check into BLT? I think the cost from a 5 day to a 6 day ticket was only about $100.

Thanks for any help!

I don't know. We have a big family trip coming up and one of my sisters booked a package starting the day after we actually planned to be there. Her travel plans changed and will be able to meet us at the start of our vacation rather than one day after but she's staying offsite that first day. Disney wouldn't let her make FP reservations any day before her package start date. When she called to fuss about it, he said her tickets wouldn't even work. That the tickets and the package start together

You can buy your park hoppers from the Disney Site. It will not affect your points rental one way or the other. You can start your ticket any time, but you must use it up within (I think) 14 days.
The reason you need to buy your park tickets in advance is to take advantage of getting fast passes at 60 days out.
Hopefully your DVC stay would be linked to your My Disney Experience account. This would enable you to get fastpasses at 60 days, provided you have park tickets by then. Same goes for the Port Orleans stay. This should be linked to your My Disney Experience account, and as long as you have park tickets, you can make fastpasses at 60 days out.

If you don't book your tickets as part of a package, you can get them for any length of time and use them whenever you want. In general, there is really no reason to buy a package (unless you have to in order to get free dining or something like that). Room only plus a separate ticket purchase will give you a lot more flexibility. And because your two stays are both onsite, you can book FPs for your entire trip 60 days before your PO checkin date.

Just buy your tickets from Disney online. Then make sure you see your tickets on MDE. If not, you can link them to MDE. Make sure all your Disney Resort stays are also connected in your MDE with all the names listed in the reservations. If it's all in your MDE you can begin making fast passes 60 days before your first Disney resort stay.

By the way, you can link your DVC stay with your My Disney Experience account by entering the Reservation Confirmation number. You should be able to get this from the person you are renting from.

To answer the other part of your question, yes, you can get a 6 day ticket attached to your BLT and start it a day early but you'll need to activate it early and you won't be able to get FP+ at 60 days for your days earlier in your trip. Your better choice would be to not get a package and just get tickets.

Yes, do this but not tied to BLT.

You do not need a package for Port Orleans - you only need to book it as room-only.

Buy your tickets separately as everyone has suggested and you’ll be able to book FPs for all your park days when your FP window opens. The DVC reservation must be linked to your MDE account, too.

Thank you! I’ve always bought packages before so I thought everything was linked to your hotel reservation. It makes sense to buy tickets separately. Thanks again!!

So I’m guessing I can book dining reservations from the 180 days prior to Port Orleans too?

Yes. And then again for the rest of your stay 180 days from when your DVC stay begins.
