Park Res Question, 2 person trip 1 ticket

I searched and didn't see any similar posts.
Wife and I, DVC members, booked an October trip.
Wife has old non-day specific tickets available, I go more often and usually have a AP. You don't need details but I currently do not have an AP.
Was hoping to wait until August to purchase tickets if AP is not available.

Can I book parks for wife then call and hopefully get added to reservation later when I have tickets? Or do I have to bite bullet and purchase tickets now for ressies?

Concerned that October days will book as the 50 celebration begins in in October.
