Do you have to purchase the UPH passes once you arrive to the resort or can you purchase them ahead of time?
Also can others check into the room before the actual DVC member arrives?
We are travelling with family who will arrive in the morning and would like to start going to the parks right away, but we (who will have closed on our resale by then and will actually be DVC members - woohoo) do not arrive until 10pm that evening.
Thanks, Jennifer

If your guests names are included on the reservation, they can check into the room before you arrive. (MS can add their names to the reservation.)

UPH, with DVC discount, can only be purchased at the resort after check-in and your guests might have difficulty purchasing them without your presence. Often the CM will allow guests to purchase, but sometimes it won't be allowed. If they are depending on the discount, they should be aware of this in advance.

I'm assuming that this reservation has been reserved using points and is not a cash reseservation booked thru CRO.

Good luck!

Can you get the DVC discount (or any other DVC discounts) if you are renting points from someone and your name is on the reservation? If so, how is it accomplished?

Technically, renters are not supposed to get any member's benefits. In reality, if your room ID states "DVC Member" you may be allowed to do so. Don't be surprised if you are challenged by a CM for your DVC membership card, but it can't hurt to ask.

Good Luck!

Not really, it is a member perq, not a renters. Some say it works, others say it does not. It is only good for Length of Stay (or whatever it is called these days).

What is the park discount for DVC members anyway?

DVC Members get a 10% discount on UPH passes purchased at the resort. There are no DVC discounts on any other type of theme park admission media. There are discounts for admission to PI and WDW Water Parks.

Enjoy!

Gail, I have not seen anyone post that they didn't get the discount. This includes renters and guests.

Gail, tell me what you've heard about others not getting the discount. I guess the point was that we've seen so many post that they got the discount that technically shouldn't have that I think it's very unlikely for one not to get it even if not entitled.

In about 5 instances I have read that folks renting points or guests of members have been asked ( imagine that!!!!) for their DVC member card and have been denied the discount because they are not members. It seems that here we only hear about the "victories" never the "defeats". I wish more CM's were diligent about checking member ID's. I probably should not care, but, it really irks me that we, as members, paid a ton of money to join DVC, have some perqs that are supposed to be member exclusive and ANYONE can get them. I would be nice to see that someone was checking and enforcing the policy.

Gail, I too frequent other places and haven't seen that even once. Still, I agree with you I'd like them to enforce the rules. Guests would not have a card and are still entitled to the discount so that wouldn't help. Whether it be the occupancy limits, discounts or the like I'd personally like them to enforce it all or change the rules legally. If they don't I find fault with DVC and not the individual member.

Well, Dean, since I am sure you are not calling me a liar :), we should just let this one go and I promise to copy and paste the next failure I read. :)

I completely agree that they need to enforce or change, preferably enforce and I do fault DVC for non enforcement.

No absolutely not, just saying I haven't seen it and also don't see how they could do it this way as it's a perk that's available to guests of members who will not have a member card. I'd love to see that info if it occurs again.

Dean,
I gathered you had not seen it. :) I really don't have a problem with guests of members having the perqs, just the renters. Heck, if I had known this I would have just rented and not joined.
Perhaps if they marked "renters" or "staying on rented points" on the reservation, it would make life easier for all involved.
