Is there a way to obtain the maps they hand out ahead of time?

check the disneyland website, it has a virtual map, or just search on yahoo or google images

I did look at those. They are a little difficult to navigate and they don't include everything!

Keep an eye open for threads like this one. That Dis'er doesn't have any maps left, but people have been bringing maps home to mail to other Dis'ers quite often! So keep an eye open for those types of posts, and PM them quickly!
