Park Hoppers or Not

With as expensive as hoppers are for a relatively "short" trip of 5 or less days, it seems like the cost just isn't worth it anymore. Just spend one day at each park and pick another park (usually MK) for that 4th day.

I just see $300 to be used for other things during the vacation .... For almost $300 you could probably add another entire day to you stay .. a 6th day of tickets is only about $10 more per person .. plus another night at the hotel (depending where you are staying). (Which is why hoppers are so expensive .. Disney would rather you stay longer than stay shorter and hop between parks).

I have hoppers .. and have used them in the past and loved them for hopping between night shows .. but it is something I see only doing on an adult trip with just my wife where we have the speed and flexibility to bounce around for meals or night shows. With a family in tow? I don't see the point. Just pick a park and plan on spending the day there.

We have AP's which have the hopper option, but with our little guy we don't use it as often. I am just as happy not using it as I am using it. With the savings you could get I would hold off paying for the option and add it on if you get there and really need it.

I personally can't imagine not park hopping. We always buy AP's and we went down last Nov. to a conference that DH had and the other guy from his work didn't want to buy hoppers bcuz of the cost. He'd never been to AK and had only spent limited time at EP so he bought 1-day tix for those 2 parks. We did AK on our arrival day since it IS a short-day park and since it was F&W we had plenty to do at EP from rope drop to close the 2nd day so that one was OK. But it drove me crazy that he couldn't go anywhere else on our arrival day (AK closed early). We didn't want to leave him alone so we hung around the resort with him for dinner. But I'd have preferred to have gone somewhere else. Guess it depends on your budget but IMO hoppers would be worth it....

I don't think there has been a trip where we didn't have hoppers. We always hop- not from park to park, but one park in the morning, rest in the afternoon and choose a different park in the evening. We like having that flexibility. So I am biased, I am all for park hoppers. They are worth it to us and the way we do things in Disney. We just like having that option to choose where we want to go at that time, not being tied down to one park per day.
