Park hopper upgrade, fastpass

I have a room only reservation at CBR for the end of April, first weekend of May. I will be there with DD for a huge cheer comp - The Summit. I purchased our park hoppers through the event sponsor as their rates were substantially better than getting them through Disney (I need entrance into ESPN two days and it's included in my hoppers without water parks.)
My issue is - since I am not purchasing my park tickets through Disney and will not have a ticket number until I arrive in Disney, I can't was FP+ even though I'm staying on property. When I asked disney about it, I was told that I would need to upgrade my park hoppers before I use them or they will not be able to be upgraded. What am I upgrading them to? And at what cost? I'm waiting for a Disney response.
Given that I can't book my FP at 60 days, what are my chances of actually getting any FPs if I am booking them when I arrive? Of course the CM said 'they can be made for even the most popular rides with the new system.' I don't consider Jungle Cruise or Pirates to be popular rides. I'm talking tier 1 rides. I do understand the FP+ system and the whole tier 1, 3 passes in the same park thing.
Haven't been to Disney since last March. Has the entire paper FP system been removed so you can only do FP+?

That's a good question. Especially since I'm not actually sure you CAN upgrade tickets purchased through their sports programs like that (as these probably are). And you are correct, you can't use these tickets to get advance FP+s. You're also correct, there are no more paper FPs.

I bet they just put an unnecessary "upgrade" blurb in there that didn't really have anything to do with anything.

On the MDE did you try entering your resort reservation to access the FP+ part?
