Park buses without park tickets

I know the park buses check for park reservations to do park hopping, but are you currently able to take a park bus from a resort without a park ticket? We are doing a resort only trip at the Polynesian but have dinner reservations at Topolinos so I figured we’d take the bus to Hollywood studios and take the Skyliner from there. Will this work?

We just got back from our trip and hopped several times. Not once were we asked to see our ticket to make sure we could hop.

The checking for park reservations and/or hopper tickets was done by cms at the bus stops when hopping was first resumed. I think it only lasted for a couple of weeks.
