Parents of teens...

They get up with an alarm. I've always felt it's their responsibility, especially by the time they're teens. My 17yo is late at least twice a week. I don't know what I'm going to do with her. The detentions she gets do not seem to phase her. That extra 30 minutes of shut eye must be worth it. My 8yo has an alarm as well and pops right out of bed.

Our kids start getting themselves up with an alarm in 4th grade. They like the independence and I like not trying to get the Grumpies out of bed.

If your son has surgery scheduled, I'd wait until later to start any changes.

I have gotten my butt out of bed and to bus stop for years. MY mother left for work before I did and my dad depending on season may or may not have been getting up around same time as me.
I now work odd shifts and I can honestly sleep through my husbands alarm. I honestly think my body knows when it has to "listen" for alarm. I can get myself up and moving with my alarm if I have to be at work at 7a but if I don't I usually don't even notice my husband coming home and getting into bed.

When mine are in school, often times one is up before me & the other I have to wake up as soon as I get up.

But they are on school holidays now for 8 weeks so we can all sleep in till the end of January.:D

DD is 17 and a Senior , DS is 15 and a sophomor. They both have set the alarm for the same time to wake up . DD doesnt go to school till 9 am DS goes at 6;55 a.m.
DD goes and wakes her brother up so he wont be late. The goes back to sleep ! All this for her little brother but she cant put gas in her own car LOL

Both started getting themselves up by the time the oldest was 14 and both parents were already at work. Went to a college orientation type thing where they were practically begging parents to make their kids responsible for getting themselves up while in high school. Said that was one of the major excuses for being late to class, that and not liking the sound of their alarm and turning it off. My MIL always said my BIL wouldn't wake up for an alarm so she had to wake him up. Guess what? When she went away, she found he could get himself up when no one else was there to do it.

Well, I'm an early bird and so is my husband. I'm up at 4:45 a.m. during the week and when I'm feeling a little lazy on the weekend, I might sleep in till 5:30 or so. I'm up anyway so I wake my 13 year old daughter up. It's less jarring than an alarm and I actually get to hug & kiss her without her realizing that she's too cool for that!

As for later life, my dad used to wake me up when I was a kid and I've managed just fine as an adult! I think kids just need more sleep than adults.
