i,m filling a box for an unknown soldier which i plan to send to afghanistan. i need some ideas as to what to put in it. i have already got; a bar of soap, toothpaste and toothbrush, showergel, deodorant, talc, shaving foam,a book, baby wipes, chewing gum and some jammie dodgers:) i plan on razors, some sweets and some soft toilet roll. i was gonna put in nuts mag,:rolleyes1: but decided against that as the parcel is gonna be from my twin sons who are 9:rotfl2: what else?

I believe the MOD are requesting that parcels aren't sent to unnamed service personnel as it clogs up the mail system and prevents post from families getting through quickly. I think they recommend that donations are made to charities instead - but I can't remember which ones.

What a lovely thing to do.:goodvibes
My partner is in the Navy and when he was in Iraq i send him a parcel out which contained everything you said as well as cup a soups and super noodles:confused3 lots of jelly sweets and a few mags, nothing pornagraphic mind as it was not allowed. I got him Stuff magazine as it is a gadget type mag which went down well.
Also incase you didn't know make sure the deodrant is not aerosol type as you cannot send anything pressurised either.

Libby is correct. I work very closely with the BFPO organisation and unnamed parcels just won't get to anyone. If you want to help in some way, as Libby says there are various charitable organisations. Here are a couple:

www.helpforheroes.org.uk
www.ssafa.org.uk

If you really do want to send something to forces personnel (please remember that not all UK Forces are 'soldiers'), I would be happy to try and find a contact for you.

Actually, please don't - any mags like that are likely to be confiscated and could get someone in a lot of trouble.

wilma-bride - if you can get me a couple( brothers doing one also)of contacts i would be really grateful. :thumbsup2 just pm me,if not please do not worry.oh and don't worry if it's not a soldier. my boys so wanted to do this since seeing the ross kemp documentary, they loved seeing the soldiers opening their parcels.i think they just wanted to make someone smile:)

What a kind pair of boys you have. :goodvibes

There is actually a charity locally which do this as they were on the news recently. How about pot noodles, chewing gum, pens & paper, cup a soup

Such a lovely thing for your children to want to do. :goodvibes

How about packets of mints, Supernoodles (they are smaller to pack than pot noodles), lots of chocolate, hard boiled sweets, tea bags, jar of coffee, maybe a Sudoku book?

You might want to be weiry of chocolate. I know shoebox appeals ban it as it melts etc in the hot countries.

Hi there, I have spoken to someone in BFPO this morning and they advised me to give you the link to a website of a charity called Support our Soldiers

http://www.supportoursoldiers.co.uk/carepackages.html

You can drop off a parcel with one of their co-ordinators - there is a list of all co-ordinators on the site or contact them to find out where you could send it.

There is also a suggested list of things which can be sent on the website. Having reread your initial post, I notice you mention deodorant and shaving gel - just to let you know that pressurised canisters are NOT allowed to be sent through the mail to the troops.

Good luck and tell your boys I think it's very sweet of them to want to do this :)

Such a lovely gesture,how kind :thumbsup2 .
I am thinking writing paper,envelopes,pens,batteries,cereal bars,crossword books,moisturiser.x.

Having spent a little time in the "gulf", lets not send them smellies....empty a shampoo bottle and fill it with "baileys", let on its "beer" ....lol....shampoo....seriously....BOG ROLL.is a must ( ever tried wiping yourself with emery paper...lol...).

sweets are good...especially ...mints.....camel breath.....

No smellies....socks are good.....(squaddie socks)....bullet proof vest would come in handy......when sending tell them its from the KIDS, we always reply too KIDS....Hx

Joh

Thanks for the link. I talked to some of the guys in the Ice Hockey team that
I do the PR for about this and we're going to do a donate a shoe box evening and I've been in contact with two of the ladies from the link you provided. I'll post some pics of the presentation evening as we're trying to get somebody from the forces along to the evening to accept the donations. We're also hoping to invite the familes of soldiers in Windsor to our game on 21 March as our guests. Hopefully the SOS ladies can help us get contacts in Windsor as we don't have any.

Thanks
Tina
