Parasols at Disney?

I just ordered a new parasol that blocks UV rays and I want to bring it to Disney 10 days from now.

I figure if people can mange strollers and ECVs I should be fine with a parasol.

Do you think it will be a problem for other guests?

(I have no desire to annoy anyone, just beat the heat. And it folds down easily.)

The parasol seems like a good idea, I always wear a hat to block the sun.

There is a parasol cart in NOS:

Hats are a good idea. Umbrellas (or parasols) take up a much wider area (taking more than just the space that the umbrella user is in), with little pointy ends that can be hazardous to others (especially those whose eye level is the same as the umbrella edge). In crowds they can be an issue.

I saw several people using them on my trip (the end of August). I think there's even a merchant in Liberty Square that sells princess themed ones so I don't think anyone will bat an eyelash.

Do whatever you have to do to keep yourself cool!

There is a cart in New Orleans Square that sells hand decorated parasols, but I haven't actually seen very many people using them in the parks. As others have said, you just have to be careful because parasols/umbrellas do stick out with pointed/sharp ends that can jab people when you're in a crowd. Also, some of the queues, like Peter Pan and other narrow queues, aren't well suited to parasols/umbrellas, so I would have a hat with you for those situations.

They used to (not sure if they still do) sell custom parasols in front of the French Market, so I can't see why it would be a problem. I'm sure it's more likely to have the back of your ankle annihilated by a stroller than have your eye poked out with a parasol.

Also, you mentioned 10 days. If you're going during dapper days, I can assure you many people carry parasols during this time, mainly as part of their outfit.

ETA: Looks like figment confirmed they do still sell them there.

Yes, there have been an increasing number of people with umbrellas and parasol as the temperature has risen... I even saw several large, golf sized umbrellas this week so youl'll be fine

I've never bought one of the parasols from the kart, but they always seemed more decorative in nature. I suppose the larger size could be used to keep the sun off an individual, but the smaller one is pretty small.

Been here all Week for the heat wave. Few people using umbrellas. What has been working for me is a hat and a cooling cloth. After Tuesday, I stopped by Big 5 to buy one, it's been a lifesaver.

I am going on Sep 22 thru Sept 26. (I guess thats more than 10 days.) When is dapper day?

The ones they sell in NOS are gorgeous, the one I am bringing has a black liner with SPF / UVP rating and specifically designed for the sun.

I am definitely bringing my arctic chill neck wrap. I have not tried frogg toggs / cooling cloth but I think its the same idea.

I'm also bringing a mister fan and planning midday breaks at the hotel.

The parasol is dome shaped so the spikes will go down more and out less, but I figure I will pull it in for more crowded spaces and see how it goes.

Heres a pic, sorry its so huge!

I saw the parasol cart in NOS last week. I also saw many people using parasols. They appeared to be about the size of a travel umbrella. What is the diameter of yours?

I think they may get in the way a bit but that is (sorry, pun alert) over shadowed by the good they do and I give people who try to limit UV exposure a lot of credit.
My wife had nearly half her face cut away and rebuilt because of skin cancer. Be careful out there my friends!

My friends bought me a white parasol from NOS to use with my Mary Poppins Disbounding outfit, a couple of years ago. I was amazed at how much cooler it was walking around in the shade of my parasol all day! I might pack one for my Dapper weekend trip.

I got one of the NOS parasols during the heat wave last year. It didn't look like much, but the shade really helps. I knew it had been a good idea to buy one when I showed up with the open parasol to one of the Bootstrappers sets - I had caught their morning sets too and this was after lunch break - and one of them gave me a thumbs up. :D

Mommy26 -- I've actually been looking for a parasol for awhile, potentially for use in the parks and more just for all the time. (I'm a new resident of SoCal and, boy, this East Coaster is not used to the sun yet!) Do you have a link for the specific one you bought? Have you used it yet and could give a review?

I think you'll be fine with your parasol. There may not be a lot of them, but people do use them in the parks. Enjoy.

Bought a parasol in NOS during the heat wave last year and loved it. At one point, DW and I were standing in a crowd and I decided to take it down, just in case, when the woman next to me said, "Don't do that, I was enjoying the shade!"

It's going back with me this year for Dapper Day. So long as you practice good umbrella etiquette, I think it's fine.
