Anyone have any tips for newbie parasailers?

We'll be parasailing for the first time at CC this December and would love some advice.

Thanks! :)

Just relax and enjoy the view from above....you'll be anywhere from 500 to 800 feet up so be sure to bring a camera with you for some great pics.....we did this on our 8/23 trip and had a blast.....Andy

Make sure that someone that is with you also has a camera to take pics from the boat. It's a little unsteady at times but you can get some awesome pics. I was going to take my camera up with me but decided not to - glad I didn't because I needed my hands to hang on to the ropes - if you are skittish at all - don't take the camera up with you. Also another great thing was my husband had the digital and went back on ship and got some great pics as well. The bad thing with that is that usually they take two boats out at once and the person back on the ship won't know necessarily which one you are on - but he took pics of both boats so I got some.

And I agree - if possibly make sure and relax. You will be surprised once you are up there. Have an awesome time!

If you take a camera up with you, which I did, make sure it is a waterproof or underwater camera, as we got dipped on the way back to the boat, have a great time and relax, it was an awesome experience. One young lady that was on our boat got dipped up to her waist, she was screaming on take off and landing, but when she got back on the boat, she said she had a great time!!!

Hi CRSNDSNY! My husband and daughter will probably go. We haven't booked the excursion yet though. Anyway, you might end up in the same boat.

Parasailing sounds like fun so I'm thinking of joining them. To the experts, is this something a ~4-month pregnant woman can do? I'm not sure how you get down - do you splash into the water? I'm guessing if you do hit the water with quite some impact, then I probably can't do this.

Thanks.

Excellent! We booked the 2pm trip. :) Maybe we'll see you there!

Thanks for all the advice -- especially on the pictures. I will be sure to purchase an underwater camera. We can't wait -- VERY excited!

It is so peaceful and quiet while floating above the water.

Wow. It looks like so much fun. So peaceful. DH and I can not wait to see the island from up high and take pictures.
Thanks for posting the pic, Andy! :)

If you have a good crew-you will take off and hopefully land-on a platform on the boat without ever touching the water. The climb and return are usually slow and even. Although there are always risks, it is safe enough but I would check with the company regarding their policy for pregant women.

Take two one-time use waterproof cameras. Give one to someone on the boat and take one up with you. i got some great pictures that way!

Getting dipped was half the fun!!! Our take off, and landing back on the boat, were quite smooth.

I should have added this photo with the other one, this was taken from the boat of my DD and I, we did a tandem flight.

My advice: call the weather service and request a moderately windy day. You might get an extra ride.

My wife and I had already planned on flying tandem. But the woman in front of us had been telling us how her husband had chickened out, and she was going to go it alone.

When it was her turn, the captain said that due to the wind she was too light to fly alone, and he needed a volunteer to go up with her. I raised my hand, and they strapped me in with her.

We went up, and I found myself with my legs wrapped tightly around a strange woman whose husband had just stood her up.

("Is that your KTTW, or are you just glad to be parasailing?")

No, seriously. Nothing like that happened. But given our positioning, it was a little awkward.

She probably wanted to just enjoy the tranquility. But I figured I had one of two choices: I could either say, "Don't mind me, I'll sit here quietly while my thighs rub up against your bottom". Or we could just talk. We had a very pleasant conversation about each others' families, and pointed out different sites on the island that we might have missed if we were on our own. (There's a lot to see if you look for it).

My wife got a big kick out of it, and snapped a couple of pictures before I got my second ride with her.

Two rides with two women. Only one passionate kiss.

Bottom line: if you're lightweight and flying alone, pray for calm weather.

My advice ?.....just do it !!!!:bounce:

I am soon to be 72 years old...I did it this year at CC and it was AWESOME

Can't wait to do it next year !!!:teeth:

Good for you Bette! That's awesome!

The dip in and out of the water is not hard at all. And the take off and landing are very smooth as well. The dip part is the fun of it and as we went along (my daugther was the 2nd person to go up and I was the 3rd) it was a challenge by each family to see how much they would dip their family member. One mom got dipped 3 times - full dip so make sure and hold your breath if it looks like you are heading for the water. It is alot of fun - I wouldn't have traded that for the world.

I am afraid of heights...I am also going to go parasailing! I just hope I can get my eyes open, lol!! I tried talking DH into going with me, but he would rather video tape me from the boat. I'm sure he'll get a show!!

My hubby is also afraid of height but went parasailing in May.
It was explained to him that as long as his feet weren't touching anything the height would not be a factor (apparently there are sensors in your feet).

I've been parasailing a few times. It is so amazingly peaceful - you just have to try it. Don't let fear get into your way of an incredible experience.

It is an amazingly, calm experience! Highly recommended!!

TIP! Wear lots of sunscreen. Again...apply buckets of sunscreen!
When you're not parasailing you will be in a speeding boat with no shade. Hats..uh, no they will fly off as the boat pulls the parasailer. Riding in the boat is a lot of fun, but not quite as calm as parasailing. Have a great time!
