Anyone have any Parasailing Stories?? I want to know if you get wet, because I'd love to take a camera up with me.
How long you stay up... Do you go up in windy weather??
A possible tandem rider-friend of mine is afraid of heights, so I told her I would get some stories and input before she signed her life away!

Thanks for the help!

My DH and 3 DS's (ages 8, 13 and 15). They did not get wet. DH took a camera (disposable) and got a couple of photos. Because you are lifted up somewhat gradually, the height may not feel so bad, but the boat does look about 2 inches long, my guys said. I guess if you were afraid of heights, it's not a good idea. I don't think they go in windy weather.

No, you don't get wet, infact I wore shorts and a tee shirt when I went up. The ride was about 10-15 mins. and it was incredible. While flying around I saw a bald eagle! :cloud9: It was wonderful to see the castle at that height. You will definately enjoy the flight :umbrella:

The 4 of us went. Husband and Son went tandem and Daughter and myself went tandem. Both my Husband and Son have a fear of heights and they both loved it.

As far as getting wet, that is another story. Apparantly, what they do is slow the boat down and let you free fall until you just barely hit the water and then they take off again so you don't go in. Well, when my daughter and I went there was some "problem" and the wind caught us or something so we ended up going in the water, my daughter who was the lower of us went in almost to her neck. I had specifically mentioned that we did not want to get wet because we didn't have any spare clothes since this was a quick weekend trip. The last place I went parasailing they asked you if you want to get wet or not. He claims he did not do it on purpose. My daughter was crying her eyes out when we came in. Other than that, the rest of the experience is amazing.

I am afraid of heights, but did tandem with DS (9 at the time) and I loved it. You do get to see so much. They do not sail in the wind, they will rescedule you. We were rescheduled 2 times on that visit. We did not get wet. Have fun!

both my kids went 2 years ago. they were 12 and 13 at the time.
my ds who was 12 was actually quite nervous. he really didn't want to go up. i was going to take his place.

but in the end, he went on the boat, the staff was fantastic to him and he was grinning ear to ear when he came back.
it is about 10-15 minute tour and the kids said you could see MK great, all the monorail resorts and loved every minute of it.

they did not get wet and would of gone every day if I let them

We went parasailing on Lake George this past summer, my one DS is afraid of heights and did OK tandem with me, but wasn't exactly thrilled with it. My DH also does not like heights and had no problem. I kept telling DS to look ahead at the scenery and not down. The take off and landing went really smooth. Only when we were up in the air and had to make a turn was it a little bumpy. As far as getting wet, we were told that there is a slight chance (99%) to get wet and the only way for it to happen is if the boats engine cuts out, then you go right down, and in the years that they had been doing parasailing it only happened once. With experienced boat operators you should not come close to the water.

WOW, Thanks for all the replys!
You guys are great!!

Thanks!

DH and I went separately twice, once in Jan., once in Nov.

In Nov. it was warm, so we had bare feet and he did bring us down so we could skim our feet through the water.

In Jan. it was in the high 50s, so we had sneakers on and we came right back to the boat. They will close the marinas if it's below 50, or for wind like some have said.

Okay - you asked for parasailing stories! My two sons, then 9 and 10 went parasailing when we were on vacation (not WDW). They rode tandem and had the option of getting wet or not. They chose yes, and no matter how hard the boat operator tried, couldn't get them to go down into the water because they were too light. He even went backwards at one point but they just kept floating up there. He finally gave up and they couldn't get wet.

But the funny part was what happened after that. Where they did the parasailing, first you had to wade out in the water to a rowboat, then paddle the rowboat out to the powerboat, then get all hooked up and go out. We'd paid for them to have their picture taken ($5 for a polaroid) and when they came back to shore where we were waiting we asked for the picture and they said they'd forgotten to take one. I expected them to just give us our money back, but the supervisor came over and yelled at the operators and said this was the second time it had happened that day and that they were giving up their lunch hour to take them back out. So out to the rowboat, to the power boat, all hooked up, up in the air, take the picture, then everything in reverse! Pretty funny!

But they both enjoyed it, even the second time, and even though they didn't get wet! I'd just be cautious if it was windy that day.

Where did ya'll go and how much did it cost??????????? How long in advance did you have to make your reservations and do you have to give them your cc # when you do??????????????????

~~~~~~~~THANKS GUYS :worship: :worship: :worship: ~~~~~~~~~
me & my fiance did the tandem parasailing at the contemporary on a past trip & it was very fun, we even have a few great pictures of us in the air & coming into the boat with our colorful parachute thingy. i think it was like $140 with tip. i was alittle scared at first getting harnessed but my h2b calmed me down before we went up, i agree with monte the castle view was great.
