We are coming for 3 nights in July. We are a family of 5. I'd love to stay at Grand Californian, but do not want to risk having a family member sleeping on the floor since they won't guarantee a bed for the 5th person. So I'm trying to decide between the other two. We've stayed at the Polynesian and Contemporary at WDW. We tend to stay at the parks most of the day, we do like a quick service place onsite if possible for quick breakfasts and late night snacks. We will also swim at least once or twice during our stay. Recommendations?

PPH only has two dining options, a lounge for snacks and TS for character breakfast and dinner. Going to the parks from PPH you will use a shortcut through the GCH and while I'd say this will add options you don't really walk by its dining locations.

DLH has a CS for grab and go snacks and a CSwith seating, and two TS. But with DLH you will walk through DTD giving you lots of other options.

The real problem is swimming. DLH has a brand new dual water slides for big kids(adults ;)) and dual slides for kids, a splash play area and hotub. But it's rumored their big pool will be closed for the summer. PPH has a pool area similiar to the Contemporary, single big slide, big hot tub, but a small pool.

Wondering the same thing myself. We are DVC members. We are on the waitlist for GCV, but if that actually came through it would be a lot like winning the lottery right now. Possible, not at all likely. We plan to use points to stay at DLH or PP. We called member services on Friday and they said there are a lot of rooms available for the time we wanted so we are going to call tomorrow and book the room (when DH has time to do it, he keeps track of the points.) PP would be less points, but the rooms at DLH seem much nicer.

Right now we want DLH, but was concerned about the pool thing. At WDW resorts if a pool is down they let you hop to another. Is DL like that?

If DLR has a new water slide, where does it dump out? Into a pool?

Our dates are July 31 to Aug 5th 2011.
