We are planning a trip to Disneyland in August. Has anybody stayed at the Paradise Pier? How did you like it? Would you recommend it?

Of Disney's three hotels at Disneyland the Paradise Pier is usually the least expensive and is my least favorite BUT that doesn't mean it is not good. I thought it was slightly bland and didn't have much personality. The rooms are nice sized and are decorated in a subtle Mickey pattern. The rooms are comfortable and quiet. If you book a themepark view you should request a floor higher up and you will have a spectacular view of California Adventure. If you get the room for a discounted price (I have seen them as low as $79) it is a real bargain.

I really like Paradise Pier. I LOVE the Grand Californian and that would always be my first choice. However, it typically will be around $300 a night for a room, which I am not willing to pay just for a random night or weekend trip. I have found lots of rates around $79 for Paradise Pier and for that price it is great. Its a cute hotel with spacious rooms. Nothing luxurious, but it has great access to California Adventure and downtown disney and a nice pool area. If you can get a good rate, go for it. If you can get a rate at the GC that would be not much more than what is available at PP, go for the GC. I have never stayed at the Disneyland hotel.

Thanks for the info We are going for a week, so the DLC is out of the question - too much money! If I could get PP for $79, I would do it for sure. I have only seen it for $150.

I have had great experiences with expedia.com having last minute discounts available for the disneyland resort hotels. Go onto expedia and search for hotels near disneyland. The disney resort hotels will come up, as will some others.

The last time we went down there for the night we were all set to stay in a non-disney owned hotel nearby, and then a few days prior to our stay a great rate became available for Paradise Pier.

Good luck. It really is worth it to pay a little extra, if you can, to stay at one of the Disney hotels rather than the hotels on harbor or katella which can be a long walk (or a shuttle ride) away.

Thanks again. I have been checking both Expedia and Orbits and haven't come up with any good deals for PP, but I will keep checking. We are not going until July 31st, so I still have some time to wait for the good deals!

Just wondering... what is the pool like at Paradise Pier? I know it is just a normal pool with no slide so does this make it less busy? The pools at the other two hotels are always packed especialy during the summer.
--Thanks!!!

Its just an average pool but it is nice - lots of grassy area around it (they do weddings back by the pool).

My experience is that it is not too crowded, but midsummer that might not be the case.

The standard view rooms at PP usually overlook the pool area.

What kind of tickets are you purchasing for Disneyland? With the annual pass you can usually get a better deal on the resorts. Back in April I got an upper level theme park view room for $99, in a couple weeks I'm paying $129. Obviously there are lower rates without that view so maybe that would be an option for you.

I thought that the Paradise Pier was a nice hotel. I'm not really that picky though. The room was clean, comfortable, had a refrigerator, and my view was fabulous! The CA entrance is great and everything else is not a long walk away. I definitely got what I paid for so I was very happy. I would certainly recommend this hotel.

Sorry-didn't use the pool.

I purchased the 4-day park hopper passes. I just saw that Paradise Pier is not even availabe any more on the dates I want to go, so I guess that is out now.

Any other suggestions for offsite hotels that are good and not too expensive?

Well if you mean a hotel with interior corridors there is the Hilton, The Marriott and the West Coast Anaheim. There are the suite hotels of The Peacock Suites, The Hawthorn Suites and the Portofino Inn and Suites. I have not stayed at any of these as when I stay off property I prefer to be just across the street from the parks so I can walk to and from. All of the above are walkable, particularly the Portofino. The others are bit farther.
The places I really like are more motels and Inns than hotels but I really enjoy them. The top One is the Candy Cane Inn which is a pretty motel with a good free breakfast bar and is located pretty close to the parks. My second usual Choice is The Howard Johnson Plaza which has interior corridors and is in a nice garden setting ( though ask for a room away from the freeway). Other decent places are The Park Inn, The Park Place Inn (closest to the parks) the Desert Inn and Suites, The Fairfield Inn, BW Anaheim inn and the new Anabella Hotel.

Thanks for the information. It is hard to choose a hotel just by looking on the internet. I want to make sure it is clean and close to Disneyland. I also want to be within short walking distance to the parks. I am looking for one that has a pool and a fridge and/or microwave in the room, since I have two kids!

Desert Inn and suites sounds like a good match.....but not a hotel per se, so if you are looking for thoses amenities you would be dissapointed.

The Candy Cane Inn Deluxe rooms have coffee makers and fridge but no Microwave. My other favorite The Howard Johnson doesn't have either. Check online for the Best Western Park Place Inn. They may have those available AND are the closest place to the Parks other than the Grand Californian
