Paradise Pier and walking to DL

Okay so we are booked for DL in February and staying at PP. My DW doesn't walk all that well, but okay as long as we take it slow. So I was wondering how far is the the walk from PP to DL's main gates, or is it better to walk over and take the monorail into tomorrowland.

Also, is there a short cut through the Grand Californian to DL or does it just going into CA?

Walking through the GCH is much faster than taking the monorail from the PPH (and if I recall correctly, the monorail doesn't even run early in the morning on weekdays due to construction).

There is a shortcut to get into DL--just go through the GCH at the lobby and head left, I believe it is--you'll come out in Downtown Disney. Others will have better/more detailed instructions, as there's another turn or two involved there.

If your DW has pain or other problems while walking, you might look into renting an ECV from an offsite company such as Deckert's. They are a huge help if you have pain or mobility problems.

We stayed at PPH in October with someone with mobility issues and rented from Deckerts (highly recommend them).

The walk to the monorail station I believe is slightly shorter than going to the front gate. But the Disneyland station is in Tomorrowland - so depending on what you want to do first - you might want to choose the monorail. Using the monorial is NOT quicker - the walk is about the same, then you almost always have to wait for the monorail. That said - we always use it a couple of times during our trips when we are staying on site.

blamar's advice about cutting through GCH is spot on. With the exception of using the monorail - we cut through every time.

I've stayed at PPH twice and always cut through GCH to get to either park.

If you've ever thought about getting "wheels", it's at Disney. And I've heard great things about Deckert's.


Following the signs at PPH to the parks leads you out the side and along pathways to Downtown Disney. There, IF it's open and running, you can catch the monorail. The monorail lets you off in Tomorrowland, so IF that's exactly where you want to be for the start of your day, it's convenient. IF it's running exactly when you need it. We've walked there, only to find that it's "down". I've gone there, waited, and then they announced that the next train was being taken offline, and that it would be *at least* 20 MORE minutes of waiting. The waiting area is concrete, with NOWHERE to sit down.

Taking the Grand's shortcut to DCA puts you out right near Grizzly Taking the Grand's way to the esplanade (area between the parks), which is a good way to get to Disneyland, involves leaving the FRONT of Paradise Pier, going to the crosswalk to the Grand, going in the big pretty sliding doors and turning left down a hallway when you can. If DW gets a wheelchair or scooter, there IS a ramp that goes along the left side of the hallway (when going *from* the Grand). Go all the way down the hallway, out the sliding glass automatic doors on the right, and going out into Downtown Disney. You come out over halfway through DTD, and it's not too long to get to the bag check which puts you into the esplanade and you can then go to Disneyland.

The walk thru the Grand is nice & you can always stop & take a few minutes to sit in the comfy chairs in the lobby if need be. There will be signs pointing you in the right direction to get you either to the special entrance for California Adventure or to Downtown Disney.

The problem with counting on the monorail, this isn't always a reliable mode of transportation & if you walk over from the PPH & find out it's not running for one reason or another, you now have a hefty walk all the way through DTD.

The walk is actually very close--if you cut through the Grand Californian. You just cross the street (don't follow the signs to disneyland--instead just walk into the front entrance of GC) and when you walk out of the Grand you are almost to the gates. I use to avoid the PP because I thought the walk was much further than the DL hotel or GC, and then I read about this shortcut here. I stayed there last Oct., and was very surprised by the short walk. It is actually shorter than the walk from the Disneyland Hotel if you take the shortcut through the GC.
