This upcoming stay at Paradise Pier in less than two weeks (yay!) will be my third time there. Prior to discovering PPH, we had always stayed at DLH because that was the only Disney hotel option. The cheapest of the three DLR hotels, PPH provides a way of staying at a Disney hotel and getting a little bit of that extra magic - but at a more economical price, if one can use the word 'economical' in any Disney-related sentence!!

As stated by a previous poster, it is clean and nice but nothing really "spectacular." That about sums it up. I actually wish they would do a little
more with the PPH in terms of expanding on the kind of 'beach/surf/water' theme, and include some more water elements on the property, maybe some aquariums or ponds. But there just isn't really enough room to develop, I suppose, and if they did, the room rates would likely soar to less-than-economical levels! So you get little touches here and there - a Surfer Goofy statue in the lobby (a perfect photo opportunity if you have little ones with you - or just big, silly adults such as myself!), a Lifeguard Mickey lamp in the rooms, a little surfboard soap holder in the bathrooms, a painting of the Paradise Pier section of DCA hanging on the wall, that sort of thing. It is pretty basic. The GCH is all about upscale, rustic elegance and the DLH is slightly tropical in nature, with its koi pond and waterfalls. PPH also has a good little snack/coffee bar in the lounge area off of the lobby, where they serve sandwiches, pastries and yummy blended mochas! One of the perks of staying at any of the three DLR hotels as opposed to staying offsite is to have your park purchases sent back to the hotel (for free) so you don't have to lug them around or shove them in an expensive locker, or remember to pick them up somewhere at such and such a time at night. We always take advantage of that feature!
I have never had the view that Mary Jo spoke of - I doubt I will be so lucky as to get a free upgrade when I am there on October 2nd because we are arriving late in the day. Last time, I think we got a view of the parking lot and some of the pool! This time, we are supposed to get a 'city view,' whatever that entails!
One other thought - if we could afford it, we would probably stay at the GCH every trip because of the convenience and location of it. I found that my traveling companions were MUCH less resistant to emerging from a 2-hour long rest break and heading back into the parks because the walk seemed much shorter from the GCH to the entrance of DL or DCA than the walk from the PPH. When we go back to PPH to rest and then I want to head back out for a second wave of activity, I get hesitation and grumbling. I don't mind the walk from PPH or DLH so much, but it is hard to convince the others with me that it is not so bad when they are tired at 6 p.m. So, all in all, we got so much more accomplished when we stayed at GCH and made better use of our time!
