Does anyone know how people are chosen to ride in the parades?

It is totally random, aleast that is what I was told by CM. I want to see if we could be grand marshalls in this saturdays MK parade to celebrate my DH 40th. If anyone has any suggestion I would love to hear them.

My family is heading up there for my mother-in-laws 60th b-day and she would just flip if we could swing something like this for her. I'd love to know as well.
