Hello everyone! Been a while since I was on here last. Hope everyone is doing well. I am headed to the parks this weekend with the fam and this is our very first Mardi Gras at Universal so I want to get the most out of the day. My girls are very excited to see Dierks Bentley and the parade!

We are hoping to get to see both. I was told there is a reserved viewing area for onsite guests in front of the Macy's facade near the NY area and the Mummy. Anyone view the parade from here? Is this a good spot for us? My girls are bead crazy and we want to make sure they can catch a few. :woohoo:

I wouldn't fool with any certain area...just out a spot you like get comfortable. Last year...they had the "special" AP viewing area...which was a joke...my spot near Mel's was much better.

Thanks for the advice Metro, maybe we will watch the parade at Mels and head down to the concert afterwards. ;)

But if you want a decent spot for Dierks Bentley, you'll have to forego a good parade viewing area and watch it from your spot for the concert.

I found out the hard way that you can't have your cake and eat it too.

I was hoping I could have my cake and eat it too, I love cake.

Catching beads is more important to them I think. I have already prepared them for the fact that they may not SEE Dierks, but they can hear him. :rolleyes1

I can't get over the weather we're having, never in the 10 years I lived in FL have I ever seen this much cold for this long. I'm not complaining either. :thumbsup2

I just had the best 3-layer coconut cake from Tom Thumb (owned by Safeway) the other day. Sorry off topic, but I love cake too!

Last year we saw Montgomery Gentry at Mardi Gras:cool1: We stood around Nictoons (I think) and then quickly made a dash to end of street. We saw them come out and sing. I was so excited for like 2 seconds. Some drunk guy thought he was brilliant singing all the words to the song off key and so loud that you couldn't enjoy the concert. He drove us crazy. We ended up leaving after he started in on the second song and we knew we were going to be stuck with is voice in our brain all night:sad2: This year it's Miranda Lambert. If that guy or similar starts up again I swear I may have to borrow Miranda's 'shotgun' :lmao: jk, it's one of her songs:rotfl2: Bring on those Beads Baby:dance3:

I wanted to see Miranda too, but the kids wanted Dierks so Dierks it was. We stood by the Mummy for the parade, closer to Macy's. It was pretty open and we were right on the sidewalk. This is the end of the parade but we still made out like bandits with beads. The only part that sucked was the greedy drunk adults who just grabbed beads up by the beginning of the parade, that ran down to where we were to grab more. I had someone run up to my 9 year old and try to snatch the beads out of her hand. Some guy tried to do the same to me, but he was unsuccessful. After a look from my DH he quickly found a new spot.

For Dierks we stood by the Twister gift shop but down the side street near the medical office. Perfect view of both the stage and monitors. Dierks was awesome!!! :goodvibes

EXCELLENT Tizzy :thumbsup2 I'm glad you enjoyed your day! That's horrible about the beads theif WTH is up with that???:sad2: some people think they are so funny when they are drunk. I bet the guy laughed his head off telling the story that he tore the beads out of this little girls hands. Well, I would give my beads to my baby girl and say 'see, let that be a lesson to you. Some people grow up to be losers, but you'd never do that would you baby girl?' AND b/c she saw first hand that behaviour it has set the stage (hopefully) that this behaviour is something she will not tolerate from future men/boyfriends/husbands... so you see? Something good comes from something bad

Ten days till VACATION. Today it is Windy and high of 55 degrees. That's ok cus extended forcast says 74 when we arrive in Tampa. We are going to Bush Gardens first and then finishing off at Universal.:woohoo: I'm soooooooo excited. The countdown has begun. Outfits are picked out. DD12's are ironed, mine will be this weekend:woohoo: and DH is picking out his spring/summer wardrobe this weekend. Bought my dollar store rain poncho's and will pack our special 'beads' from last year. No rain or bead ho's will keep us down:dance3: hee hee

She's 10, so she knew he was a jerk. Her Daddy and big brother caught a lot of beads and gave them all to her and her sister so she didn't care. She just couldn't believe it.

The weather here is definitely changing all the time, but it has been warming up. I can't see it getting any colder than it was when we were there and we didn't mind the cold a bit. It also rained in the morning and early afternoon, kept the crowds low.

You will have a great time! Hope you don't run into any bead ho's. :rotfl:
