I have a Fiskars 12inch Deluxe Portable Trimmer, I've had for a few years. I've recently noticed I'm going through more than normal blades, but still not geting a 'clean' cut... and as of recently I've noticed my cuts aren't exactly straight most the time. I'm thinking I might need to buy a new trimmer... What kinda trimmer do you use/recommend?

TIA
Micaela

I use the Cutterpede - it's a good cut, and you can get interchangable fancy cut blades, like a scorer, a perforator, a wavy one, a few jagged ones, etc.

I also have the Making Memories cutter, but it's too bulky for me to haul out much.

I was having a similar problem with my Fiskars cutter. I used a toothpick to "clean out" the groove where the blade cuts.... it was full of dust and little paper bits. Then I wiped out the groove and the measuring plate with Un-du, just to remove anything else. It really helped. I still have to be careful, because it seems as my cutter gets older, there is more "play" in the arm (the part the paper sits under).

I also know, for a fact, that cutting photos dulls my blades MUCH faster than cutting paper or cardstock. I have a second cutter...a Making Memories cutter with a self-sharpening blade that I use for cutting most photos. But I still like my Fiskars for most every day stuff...............P

I bought the MM one as Bazzil was eating blades in my CM one:scared1: I use the CM personal trimmer for photos - I've had it nearly 4 years and its still fine, as long as you make sure you hold the plasticky thing down hard to keep the photo still:thumbsup2

THANKS Ladies, I think I'm going to pick up the MM self sharpening paper trimmer! It sounds like several ppl like it, and I can use it at home and try cleaning up my fiskars as pjlla explained.... if that doesnt work, maybe I'll get the Cuttepede for crops.
