Hi everyone -
I bought the Disney colouring book at the outlet store and wondering about paper piercing. What is it and how do you do it? Can somone please give me step by step instructions??? I would love to see examples of your work.
Thanks

I think you are actually asking about paper piecing. I start by making a copy of the image that you want to piece.

You can cut apart the image and trace each piece that you want a particular color onto the cardstock or some people use carbon paper to trace the pieces on the cardstock.

Cut those pieces out. (I live dangerously and trace without carbon paper and without cutting apart the image - I just make sure I use either a sharp pencil or a ballpoint pen so that I can see where to cut. )

Then you take all the colored pieces that you have cut out and put them together like a puzzle either on a backing (overall image cut out) or directly onto your page. Clear as mud? I am at work and don't have any paper piecings scanned but will try to do it for you when I get home.

Oh..I piecing! See I am a newbie!
This sounds great. I would love to see samples of this. I have the colouring book and would love to try this. Thanks for your explanation!

I have a paper piecing on one of my LO's here:

The elephant image was a coloring in image from a kids website that you could print off. I printed him 3 times, twice on the grey card and once on white paper. Onr the 1st grey print I cut out all of him, on the second just his head. I then used some sticky foam (so it would be raised up) to attach his head piece onto the top of the body piece, the trick is aligning them perfectly! With the white copy I only cut out the tusks and just stuck them directly over the tusks on the head piece.

Hope that makes it a little easier to understand!?!

Your elephant is awsome!

Thank you for the description. I never thought of putting all the pieces onto a backing - DUH!

I want to make some tinkerbell paper piecings but need to find the right photo. Any hints? I saw one on ebay that was tink sitting in a teacup.

I've done Tink too ( I'm a paper piecing fiend!) I used her as an embellishment on a photo mat here:

http://twopeasinabucket.kaboose.com/pg.asp?cmd=display&layout_id=1046242

She was VERY fiddly to do. She is about 2 inches tall and was made of 10 pieces, the smallest measring only about 5mm square :faint: I made her wings from vellum for a see-thru look. I can put up the image I used to make her but I'd reccomend making her a little bigger than I did if you're not too accurate with scissors.

I'll put the image up later, my photobucket album has died atm.

Dumb question but how do you get the black image lines around the item? Do you simply draw in?

I HAVE THAT TINK!!

I thought, what a totally cool 3-D sticker she found across the pond.

The fact that you MADE it, it is even more special to me now. Thank you so much for doing that for us.

WOW! I can't believe anyone would think it was shop bought, I didn't think it was that amazing really.
