I am trying to learn how to paper piece but I am having a great deal of trouble. I trace my pieces but when I try to put them together it never seems to fit together right. Any advice?

I have done a few pieces and am no expert but here is how I started.

Find a simple design to start with. The coloring book that is sold at WDW that is light blue with Mickey and friends and the monorail is a great book to use for Disney.

Copy the page of the design you want to do and cut out all the different shapes from the copy so you still have your original. You can make note of the colors that you want each piece to be on either copy, tape the cut out pieces onto the color cardstock you want it to be with repostionable adhesive to keep it from moving when you cut it out leaving a tab for where it will join to the neighboring piece. ie I leave tabs on the arms, legs, and neck but not the body. It is best to lightly draw your tabs before you start cutting and just follow your original picture to put it all back together.

And if all else fails
go to EBay and bid on a premade one :flower: LOL

Hope this helps

There is a book at bookcloseouts.com that has over 200 paper piecing patterns right now that is on sale for $7.99. Maybe this would help you.

ETA: It's called "203 Paper Piecing Patterns" by Hot Off the Press

Why don't you download a pattern first & try it with that? Maybe that way you'd get an idea of how it's done, what works & what doesn't. I tried to start with a coloring book outline for my first one & had a terrible time. I think I was going for pieces that were too small for one thing.

Here are a couple of links for patterns:

HTH!

Thank you...I will try again tonight. I think I am trying to do something to detailed to start out with so I am going to try something a bit easier.
