Paper License and renting from Alamo Question!!!

My husband and I both just got our licenses renewed.....

Well, in Rhode Island they don't give you the "card" style license when you renew.... they give you a temporary paper license that is good for 60 days and the state mails you your "card" style when it is ready.

I fear that we will not have the "card" style by the time we leave!!!!!

Will I have an issue renting the car with Alamo???? Will they think that this isn't a valid license????

Has anyone else run acorss this issue????

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!!

Not renting a car but I've had to fly with a paper license before. What I did was carry my expired photo ID and show both that and the current paper license. I didn't have a problem. If you still have the old license, I would bring that with you just in case.

Unfortunately they keep the old one so the only photo ID I have is the paper....

Well... I will just keep my fingers crossed that they get here before we leave...

If it's a government-issued photo ID, I can't imagine it'll be a problem.

I would think they would need photo ID too along with the temp card, probably the same with the airlines. Anyone could use your temp ID.

But the OP said the paper license is a "photo ID" ....

CleveRocks - I didn't understand that to be the case.

If it's a temporary paper license like they used to give out in our state, there is no picture.

OP - Is there anyway to get an expedited license or get an official "ID" card with a photo from RI before your trip?

That's what they do here in NY too - no photo on the paper license. In a later post, she did state that the paper license is the only photo id she has - so the way I understand it now is the temporary license has a picture on it. If that's the case, she shouldn't have a problem.

If that isn't the case, and now the OP has no photo id, I don't know how she's going to be able to get on the plane in the first place. :confused3

CleveRocks is correct, the ones RI issues does have our picture on the paper.... it isn't in color but it is there.....and nope... the state moves when the state moves  !!!!
