I took my DGS9 "toy looking" at Target yesterday to get an idea about what he would like for Christmas. One thing he saw and said he would really like is the Paper Jamz Guitar which is on sale right now. I don't have a clue about this and what it does or if it is any good. Can someone help this Grandma out please? TIA.

My DS7 has one from Christmas last year. It has two modes, you can either pretend to play a preset song that's already on it or you can put it on free play and make up your own song. It's fun and not horribly "I can't stand it" loud. In our house it doesn't get alot of play, but DS prefers to play sports and doesn't play with toys much. HTH. By the way, I would also buy batteries and a shoulder strap for it.

woot. Com has Paper Jamz Pro Microphone & Effects Amp as the special today 9.99.:hippie:

Editing to add that Brookstone has the guitar for 9.99 too! with free ship, looks like a good deal....

Thank you! My daughter is 11, I hope she will like this....she put it on her list.

Thanks! DS has the microphone on his list, I wasn't going to get it for $25, but for $14.99 (with shipping) it's worth it :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info. My DGS9 is not into sports and is musically-inclined. Because of that, I thought he might really enjoy this for Christmas.

I looked at this and the regular price is $25. The one we saw at Target was on sale for $39. Does anyone know if there are different "models" and maybe that's why the one we saw at Target cost more? If it's the exact same thing, I'm ready to get it. He also wanted the amp which is on sale at Brookstone as well.

I think the only difference is the 'version' of songs that you get preloaded into the microphone. You can download a lot of music from their site though. It's probably just a woot and brookstone sale. These don't appear to be 'top' items like they were last year.

Just a little 'plug' for my DH--His band is featured as one of the songs on the Paper Jams microphone-his band is the Alison Pipitone Band-if anyone gets this version let me know if you like the song!

I have what is probably a dumb question- is it called Paper Jamz because the guitar and mic are made out of paper?

Can someone tell me more about the mic? My dd 13 might like that.

It's not paper, it's plastic but it's flat like paper. It's not like you are holding a real guitar (or drums-they have a drum version too) and there are no strings. The point of the instruments is to 'play' along with the songs.

The mic has a little 'amp' that the music comes out of. There are a few songs (3 I think) that come loaded on it but you can download popular songs from thier website. It has an 'autotune' feature that will help to correct the singer's voice. It has a 'harmonize' feature that will help make it sound like you are harmonizing with the vocals. It's not the best toy and it's not professional karaoke, but it's fun and if you can get it cheap it's worth it.

I notice there are several guitars to choose from. I am not into the music of this day (prefer my 60's :)), so which guitar would be appropriate for a nine year old boy? His mom told me he likes the music from the 80's which just happens to be when his parents were teenagers. Go figure. :dancer:
