I'm going to a formal wedding tomorrow night and can't decide on my footwear.

I'm wearing a black dress (hits a little below my knee).... I bought the matching black strappy open toe sandals to go with it. Mom thinks that I must wear pantyhose to 'complete' the outfit... I think pantyhose look funny with open toed sandals.

HELP....I don't want to get pulled over by the fashion police!

Several years agao, I would have agreed with your Mom. Since then, I have been told that it is improper to wear hose with sandels.

I've seen pantyhose with open toes at department stores. I haven't tried them, but it looks like they loop around your big toe to hold the hose in place.

The one pair of dressy sandals I have is also backless so I don't wear hose with them because I have a hard enough time keeping them from slipping off.

Im with you. Definitely no nylons with an open toe.
Have fun at the wedding. :D

No - you CANNOT wear sandals with pantihose if they are strappy and open. IT IS NOT RIGHT. The fashion police WILL pull you over.

If there is just a little bit of a toe opening, you can wear them.

I would also suggest treating yourself to a pedicure, so your feet will look extra pretty :-)

I had a pedicure last night... I knew I was right and wanted to be prepared to go hoseless.

This brings up a question I have. DD has an award ceremony coming up at school soon and they have to dress up. She has open toed sandals she's going to wear, and of course, they will look better without pantyhose - BUT - the school has strict rules on no barefeet. What then?

Oh no no no. Its an absolute fashion faux-pas! No nylons with open-toed shoes. I cringe whenever I see someone wearing them. Its nearly as bad as people who wear pantyhose with shorts.

Please buy her another pair of shoes. Don't let your child become a fashion victim!

No, you may not wear sandals with hose. Ever. Please! :)

Robin, you are RIGHT....it's BIG NO-NO to wear hose with sandals!

In Southern California it's actually rare to see anyone wearing hose at ALL any more, unless it is for business attire.

Most definitely do NOT wear the hose and you will avoid the big FP citation. ;)

86 the pantyhose. It's a definite fashion no-no, even it it's a black tie event. No hose with open toed sandals, ever!

Definitely NO HOSE with sandals.
I bought open toe sandals to wear in my BIL's wedding in Aug. mainly because I didn't want to wear hose! :teeth:

Call the school and confirm the "pantyhose issue"...tell them the situation and see what they say.
If the won't allow it buy new shoes. Do not be a FP victim.:p

Who cares what the fashion police say. Do what you think is right. I wear panty hose all the time, with sandals, without sandals, with shorts, under jeans. I am just more comfortable that way and I don't care if the "fashion police" don't like it.

I would definitely check with your DD's school. My mom is a teacher in a school with a similar policy, and it means female students and teachers must wear hose and male students and teachers must wear socks. Most who choose to wear open toed shoes or sandals do wear the new hose designed for those types of shoes.

I attended a strict private school for several years and they required pantyhose for all females in the higher grades (younger girls had to wear socks). They didn't care whether the shoes had open toes or not. Thankfully now they have the open toe pantyhose so you can still wear the sandals and not look silly.

Oh, I don't know...

Ms. Bach did it all the time ;)

Of course, I couldn't find photos that demonstrated it well, but she did!

I've never heard of this

Where do you find open toed pantyhose, because there's NO WAY, I'm wearing a formal dress with bare legs.

Bare legs are NOT formal IMO (Especially bare, really white ones :teeth: )
