Ok, some of you "pros" who do this all the time won't think this is all that great, but I did some panning, and it worked! Last night was our final marching band competition of the year (and DS17's last one EVER
), so I was taking pictures as usual. I decided to see if I could do some panning.
Now, I was using my Canon S3 IS on Sports mode, which bumps up the ISO so you get as fast a shutter as possible (yes, I ran it thru Noiseware). But we're talking night, on a football field with the lights on, plus a very light drizzle. Some of the shutter speeds I noticed while taking photos were 1/60, 1/40. And I managed to get a good shot while panning! Check it out:
I was following the musicians as they moved to the right of the picture, as the girls in the guard were moving to the left. I'm so proud of myself!
I was trying to do some "advanced" photography and it actually worked!
(By the way, that's my DS15 playing bari sax in the center of the photo.)
Another by the way, our band took first place in our division, and only 2 other bands (national class with twice as many kids and way bigger budgets) scored higher. Way to end the season!
