So I was just checking out our cabin and it looks like it has a queen, single convertible sofa and a pull down bunk. This is going to be an issue. I don't trust my 4 year old in the upper bunk, especially if she gets out of bed in the middle of the night. My 9 year old is disabled and cannot climb up to the top. What other sleeping arrangements are there in cabins that sleep 4? Could we get an extra cot in the room? We booked through a TA and she is looking into it but thought I'd check here, too.

You can get extra bars for the top bunk, it's rare to fall out.

What category room, what ship? Some Cat 4s for example have a wall Murphy bed to pull down as well. But your child will be safe, on the ship talk it over with your stateroom host, as said extra bars can be added if required, but children are always safe.

My children when 4 were using the top bunk without issue, a cot is a pack and play your 4yo is too old for that.

Unfortunately, that is the make up of the DCL rooms. I know RCCL has a lot of full size pull out sofas for their cabins, but I believe only the concierge cabins on DCL has those.

Could your 4 year old be in the bed with you and your spouse? Could the 9 and 4 year old sleep together (I often end up sleeping in a twin bed with my 3 year olds)?

Ha,Ha! Sleeping with my 4 year old is like sleeping with a Tazmanian Devil! She is crazy! I'm not so much worried about her falling out, as I am her falling while getting up and down the ladder, especially if she gets up to go to the bathroom in the dark and she's half asleep. I'm sure we'll figure it out. The mattress on the flood may be an option.

I second the mattress on the floor, we have the Taz-man as well and when the friends came along on the second to last cruise sleepovers were imminent. Worked well for us, also used some extra bath towels under the mattress for better cushioning.

Holy crap. A Cat4 room is what they call a "family stateroom?" It's like $4K more. I don't think that is going to happen. Disney must have some way of accommodating kids with disabilities.

If you want to remain in the room that only sleeps 4, I see your options as:
The 4 year old and one or two others in the queen bed, and the 9 year old in the sofa bed. If only one other with the 4 year old, the other adult sleeps in the bunk bed.

Or, ask your room host to pull the mattress from the bunk bed and place it on the floor (for whoever) and the other child sleeps on the sofa bed.

DD slept in the bunk bed when she was barely over 3, and we felt safe with her up there. Does your 4 year old get up often in the night?

It might be that much more now but the price you would pay would be what that category was the day you booked. Not sure how long ago you booked. If you do go that route, make sure the room you get has all the beds. Some of them do not have the Murphy bed.

I wouldn't have even questioned if she would be ok, except we were at a family camp this past week and the cabin had bunk beds. She refused to sleep on the top and was very scared about getting up and down. Luckily there was an additional futon that she slept on. I mean, for 6 grand, everyone should have their own bed.

I realize I sound like a crazy person, but vacations are stressful and I don't want to be fighting about sleeping arrangements on the first night, after traveling all day!

What ship ?

On the Dream and Fantasy some of the cat 8 sleep 5 with a murphy bed. e.g. we like Cat 8B, deluxe family oceanview stateroom; MOST (but not all) have a queen bed, the sofa bed, a pulldown-from-ceiling bed and a murphy bed.

That's a great point. We booked the first week that they announced the cruise.

We're on the Magic in October, out of NYC.

Maybe check the price of two inside connecting cabins? It would give you more space, 2 tv's, 2 bathrooms and would solve the bed problem
