Panic Buying!

Friend of mine is a doctor. They've had to put masks under lock and key, because staff were stealing them to take home for family and friends.

Soap aisle and hand sanitizers are wiped out. We were at Bed Bath & Beyond, and they had some hand sanitizer at checkout, and I picked up a bottle. My wife scolded me about the price, but who's the smart guy now, lol?

they should be fired

I can't see me not buying what I want because somebody I don't know (or even some one I do, LOL) might think I was a "hoarder".
Seems counterproductive, a waste of energy, and time too. 🤷‍♀️

I told DH I wanted to totally play it up too. Walk around with a look of crazed panic, babbling about "the dang pomonavirus" LOL. But alas, no fun was to be had since all the stuff I needed was sold out.

Sadly, I needed a bottle of rubbing alcohol, rubber gloves, bleach and toilet paper today when we were out for our weekly grocery shop. I run a horse farm and had a sick horse last week that caused us to run through quite a bit of our medical stock so I needed to replenish (and it just happened to be time for another pack of tp). Walmart was out of all of that. Thank you SO much hoarders and panic buyers for snapping up stuff you don't need so that the people who legitimately need/use those things are out of luck.

I hope you can get the supplies you need soon.

It doesn’t really serve anyone’s end goal for more people to get sick because people bought enough Clorox wipes for two years, upping everyone’s chances of getting ill from all of the muck that is out there during cold and flu season. Clorox will be restocking wipes before then. It doesn’t give me the warm and fuzzies knowing people I come in contact with may not have enough soap and toilet paper at home. It also makes it difficult for families like us that often buy for elderly family members too (buying for two households), when stores now have to limit to what is reasonable for one household.

I wonder what will happen to the people who didn’t have the means to “prep.” Is someone with diabetes going to have to give themselves an injection without sterilizing first because they didn’t have enough money to run to the store and fill their cart?

For the record I would like to record an incredible occurence yesterday.

Girl scouts actually came to MY DOOR! Haven't had that happen in years. I am now officially prepared.

But now I'm panicked that google is monitoring my posts and somehow alerted them that I was in need. :rotfl:

I went to Kroger this morning and I think every single person in the store had toilet paper in their cart.

The thing I wonder about is the bottled water. Why are people stocking up on water - are they afraid their utilities are going to cut off? Kroger was almost totally out of water.
What I don't understand is the people buying cases of bottled water? Is there some bogus claims going around that you can get sick from tap water?

My theory is that the folks who write the news (at least in my area) must have googled "what to have on hand in case of a natural disaster" and then just reported that without actually thinking about what they were saying. Our local news stations were ALL recommending that people have 1 gal/person/day for 14 days, and now they've all changed their tunes and say that you don't need to stockpile water for this situation. Someone must have come to their senses!

And since I've been "liking" your posts I'm hoping Google gets wind and sends a few GSs my way. :thumbsup2

Not only have the supplies around here in Middle Tennessee been cleaned out by hoarders, there was massive damage by tornadoes that has everyone buying and sending supplies to those areas.

We are in Central Massachusetts and I just did a food shop and Walmart run. Doesn’t appear to be any stockpiling here.
Only thing I didn’t see was hand sanitizer. They had plenty of other supplies though.

I'm in western MA and was at the Big Y yesterday. The only thing I noticed that was completely cleared out were disinfectant cleaners

The next shortage will be flour and yeast. Count on it.

Our store was out of the regular flour on Friday when I was there. Fortunately, I didn't need any. I will admit to picking up a container of yeast even though I still have a half container left because I was a little worried it would be gone when I needed it.

Went to Target today to fill my monthly prescription and a short shopping list of fresh items for DH (the cook). I decided to pick up some paper towels which were there but no TP to be found nor at Walgreens around the corner. King Sooper's was stocking the paper supplies right out of huge cartons as people grabbed whatever they could! We're always ahead in tp so I left that for everyone else.

But thanks for the wine reminder; I am down to one bottle o_O

I might go ahead and just buy the Toto bidet seat I’ve been eyeing so I won’t have to worry as much 😝

We have been renovating our master bath and just finished. When I mentioned the shortages, DH said, “well, good thing you wanted that bidet seat”. Heated water, hot air dry... I think we can survive without toilet paper if we do run out .:upsidedow

I stayed at a hotel that had them and fell in love.

DW makes her own cleaning spray with Dawn dish detergent and rubbing alcohol and used up the last of the alcohol to make a fresh batch yesterday. Looks like she'll have to buy a pre-made product when this batch runs out.

She also has to test her blood sugar, and we noticed Walmart was out of those tiny alcohol wipes for your finger. Fortunately she bought a case of 8 boxes of 100 online early in the year and they should last well into the summer.
