I have decided it is time for me to hoard. And I would like to start with Thin Mints -what you can you do for me?

We sold out yesterday! People were buying like crazy. That's some hoarding I approve of!

DW had a procedure in downtown Seattle this weekend, and the hospital had to remove the hand sanitizing stations because people were stealing the hand sanitizer bottles from the stations. Said they went through what was normally a three week supply in three days.

I sincerely appreciate that - but I'm in full on panic hoarding mode so I think nothing less that oh 112 is going to be required.

The way I figure that is enough for 2 boxes per day per person for a 2 week quarantine. It's not about being panicked, its about being prepared.

While I agree with the toilet paper comment, the milk one I do not. You have no idea of people's situations. We buy 10 gallons of milk doing our weekly grocery shopping every single week because we have six kids and they all drink milk. While our milk consumption has somewhat dipped with three in away at school, they are all coming home in the next couple of weeks for spring break.

We consider milk to be a food rather than a beverage. I don’t think we have finished a gallon in one week since the kids were toddlers.

The next shortage will be flour and yeast. Count on it.

I did say "most people". You also have a pass, because you run an orphanage Just joking. Also, you are buying what you need, not buying 3 times what you need. I have no problem if people need extra toilet paper. Many people, including myself, have digestive issues which increase bathroom frequency. People who need more than others, no matter what item is being hoarded, are not able to get what they need, because of the hoarding. I don't automatically look at people's carts at the store and judge what they have, unless it looks really yummy and I wish I had bought some. I don't know there situation. Only they know, and they should feel guilty if they are hoarding.

I am running low on King Arthur AP and wheat flours, and yeast. I have maybe 2 more bakes out of it. I have enough White Lily for cakes/cookies, but I really prefer the KA flours for bread.

I did hit Target and Walmart this morning for a few things. Walmart's candy aisle was decimated. There was some pegs with gum packs, a few boxes of full sized candy bars and some bags of mini sized candy bars on the shelves. All the Gimbal's and Jelly Belly jelly beans....gone. Almost all the 'movie box' candy....gone (unless you wanted Raisinettes or Sno-Caps, you were out of luck.) [I did not check the Easter candy aisle; just the regular one/] The wine section was pretty lean as well.

Target's shelves were pretty thin in the shampoo/conditioner and soap sections. (I had a BOGO free manu. coupon for Love Beauty Planet, and I picked up a shampoo and conditioner that I don't need until the end of the month; but the coupon expired soon, so...)z


ETA: a few regular things, not hoarding things, lol. Although, I'm sure the cashier thought I was, since I bought a lot of frozen veggies...about 30 regular size bags and 2 of the 4 lb bags. I swear, though, that it's about half of what we go through in a month! We usually use 2 bags of veggie per dinner. For stir-frys, it's 3.

It’s not really fair to judge someone for supposed hoarding without knowing their situation. My husband had to put back some, not a lot of, hand sanitizer at Bath and Body Works because he had gone over their, not displayed anywhere, limit. An outsider could have thought he was hoarding, they couldn’t have known he was buying for himself, his wife, and his in-laws. They couldn’t have known that he has a job working with the public and he’s trying to not get his elderly in-laws, with pre-existing conditions, sick. He’s of course also trying to protect his young kids from the normal stuff that floats around this time of year. Unfortunately, us running low on soap and hand sanitizer coincided with the new virus. We were also slow on the uptake getting prepared due to be distracted caring for a newborn and a toddler.

A lot of the time when I have an unusually large amount of the same item in my cart, it’s because I’m buying for my parents too.

Friend of mine is a doctor. They've had to put masks under lock and key, because staff were stealing them to take home for family and friends.

Soap aisle and hand sanitizers are wiped out. We were at Bed Bath & Beyond, and they had some hand sanitizer at checkout, and I picked up a bottle. My wife scolded me about the price, but who's the smart guy now, lol?

My daughter is back from college for the weekend and I wanted to send a few supplies back for her. Heaven only knows how a large college campus will handle an epidemic. But I guess we'll find if it happens. There were no cases in our state when they emailed a couple days ago. The first case was just identified yesterday and I'm sure it will ramp up once the test is available in larger numbers.

Went to several stores. No sanitizer (which is fine since I usually have plenty of that on hand). There was antibacterial soap if you like coconut or cucumbers. LOL.

Plenty of sanitizing wipes and Lysol still available.

from what i can tell here in washington they are trying to avoid them by emptying the campuses and telling students to go home. we've got some that have switched to entirely on-line for the remainder of the term, some that have shortened their terms and will be conducting finals a week early,

i don't think it's a good plan of action, all it will do is send these students to different parts of the state where exposure rates may be higher only to have them come back to campus a few weeks later and share that exposure with their classmates and communities

Spring break on her campus starts 2 weeks from Friday. I'll be curious to see how these 2 weeks go.

I really don't know what the right call is. So we wait and watch our email.

Yep. My 2 in college are on spring break now.

One left Friday for France. The other stayed in his college town and is watching his brother's cat and another friends cats.

All of that son's friends went away for the week.

Both said their friends have talked about what germs everyone will bring back to school next week.

I'm considering sending a couple of virus care packages to them.

We happened to be an hour away from their town this weekend and met the one son for dinner last night and lunch today. He said his town was out of hand sanitizer so I gave him the one from my auto.

Haven't shopped in 2 weeks so I don't know what's available in my area to send up to them.

I 'think' I've got extra hand sanitizer at home that MIL gave us from conference give a ways. Will have to look tonight.

There was a case of coronavirus announced in the county we were in this weekend. So it's within an hour of that campus.

Sadly, I needed a bottle of rubbing alcohol, rubber gloves, bleach and toilet paper today when we were out for our weekly grocery shop. I run a horse farm and had a sick horse last week that caused us to run through quite a bit of our medical stock so I needed to replenish (and it just happened to be time for another pack of tp). Walmart was out of all of that. Thank you SO much hoarders and panic buyers for snapping up stuff you don't need so that the people who legitimately need/use those things are out of luck.

I totally agree. I'm trying to go about my daily business. I work in a building with several thousand people and all I want to do, besides handwashing, is to be able to periodically wipe down my keyboard, computer mouse, phone, and desk as well as our communal microwaves and fridges. It's ridiculous that you can't find ONE canister of sanitizing wipes just so you can go about your business and take small precautions. All the while, there's probably some hoarder sitting at home, refuses to go out, and is surrounded by 50 tubs of disinfecting wipes.

I totally agree. I'm trying to go about my daily business. I work in a building with several thousand people and all I want to do, besides handwashing, is to be able to periodically wipe down my keyboard, computer mouse, phone, and desk as well as our communal microwaves and fridges. It's ridiculous that you can't find ONE canister of sanitizing wipes just so you can go about your business and take small precautions. All the while, there's probably some hoarder sitting at home, refuses to go out, and is surrounded by 50 tubs of disinfecting wipes.

And I'm sure if anyone saw me with a cart full of those items they would have assumed I was a doomsday prepper, rather than just refilling my monthly supply of barn necessities. We actually have N95 masks. Crazily, DH bought them for us right at the start of the outbreak panic about a week ago because we needed a dust mask for handling hay (and it was all Lowe's had in stock. Meant for drywall sanding). The dust was causing severe respiratory stress, and I have asthma, when I had to throw hay to our horses every night.

I can't see me not buying what I want because somebody I don't know (or even some one I do, LOL) might think I was a "hoarder".
Seems counterproductive, a waste of energy, and time too.
