So after slogging my way through various TR (ok only about 4) I’ve decided to bite the bullet and write one of my own.

This Pre-Trip begins once upon a night….
I had been saying that for my birthday in 2007 I wanted to go to Disney. I hadn’t been to WDW since 2001 when I had gone with my family (DF (father), DSM (stepmom), DB, DHB (half brother)) for my DHB’s 1st time. Needless to say I’m the only Disney freak in my family and DHB could’ve cared less about the trip except for the video game exhibit in Epcot where he decided to throw a big hissy fit that made the parental units so angry  the rest of that day along with the “can we go back to the hotel” whining every few hours. :::sigh::: I was very saddened that they were not appreciating the Magic that is WDW. But I digress from my old TR within the Pre TR.

So sometime in October 2006 while at work (I work at night btw) I went to the Disney site to get into the mood and ideas of what I wanted to do for my trip and planning it. So I wandered aimlessly through the recesses of the website, checking out resort after resort, ticketing options, then I started pricing and what I wanted to do for 5 days in the World. I learned of the Disney Dining Plan, (what an awesome idea!), and watched video clips of resorts, restaurants and things to do at Disney until the computer at work decided to stop loading the videos. Very sad.:sad2:

I spent about 5 hours on the Disney site and had somewhat of an outline of my Ultimate Disney Vacation—which consisted of staying onsite (which I’d never done), eating onsite and not just CS either, no sirree I was going to do some fancy sit-down dinners too (soon to be called TS). So armed with my scrap paper of what the trip would cost, the places I wanted to visit and my new Disneyworld.com account and my Free Vacation Planning DVD on the way I tucked it all away until the beginning of 2007 since the Website didn’t even show me April 2007 way back in October of 2006. Oh what a sad lost misguided soul I was.

Fast Forward to January 2007. I have viewed my Disney Vacation Planning DVD (the 2006 Happiest Celebration on Earth Version) with Erin and her lovely friends. Which just excited me to all heck! I had checked out all the special features and checked out all the resorts, picking which ones I liked the most and even wrote down some of the restaurants. So January finally rolls around and I pull out my little scrap paper with all my notes for my Ultimate Disney Vacation and go back to the Disney site since I am now able to choose my April Vacation dates. Woohooo!!

So I start pricing my top hotels. Which were: BC/YC, CR, AKL, BW, and Port Orleans (both sides). I priced them and got with my travel buddies to choose which one we liked the most. And the winner was…….::::drum roll please:::::

The Contemporary Resort, because we want to be able to jump on the monorail. So armed with my Disney website reservation quote I dial the lovely 407-W-Disney number excited to book my very first onsite reservation.

Ok some backstory and intro’s to the cast.

There are five of us planned to go, so I guess it’s time to do some intro’s.

There’s me :donald:(27) -- I am the only Disney Freak in my family. I lurrrve Disney, I grew up on the Classic Disney channel (by classic I mean they played actual non-computer generated cartoons and Disney movies with a few live-action shows—as opposed to the horrible looking Clubhouse Disney and the five-million live action shows with little to no cartoons…very sad). I am single (never married), no kids, mom to 3 wonderfully spoiled mittow kitties.:cat: Currently working at a hospital with a communications degree that is 1 year old and doing absolutely nothing for me because I lack experience. Ok mini pity party over. Also Scrapbook extraordinaire that basically scraplifts to save time and already spent a nice chunk of money on Disney scrapbooking stuff for the upcoming trip.

DC(cousin) :tink: (19) – She’s the next closest Disney freak to me, but not as obsessed as I. She loves to eat and is very excited about the snack credits and desserts from the DDP. She recently graduated HS and lives with us, so I’m dragging her along on the trip.

OT: This trip was originally going to be a trip between me and my 2 cousins, but the other cousin backed out at the last minute.

DF(Friend) ::MinnieMo Collette (40ish) — She’s my lovely 40-ish co-worker who’s never been to Disney. She’s originally from NY by way of England and Jamaica. She’s a wonderful mixture and has the spirit of a 20 y/o. Very excited to be getting away from her husband and kids to come with us on this all girls trip.

DF(Friend) :earsgirl: Monica (30ish) – She’s actually a friend of Collette’s, that I’ve recently met. Another Disney virgin who is also excited to get away from her kids to come with us. Another spirit of a 20 y/o. She and Collette have an amazing energy that rivals mine and my cousin’s put together and they will be a force to be reckoned with.

DF(Friend) :eeyore: Yani (26) – Another co-worker. Actually at this point Yani is onboard, but not completely sure because she’s in college and is in Finals week. (Yani had decided not to go, but then later on decided to withdraw from classes and once again rejoined our rag tag team of Vacationers—act shocked when you read about it later).

Ok back to the reporting. When we last left off I was dialing Disney for a ressie. After waiting to be connected to a CM I finally got through and spoke with a lovely lady whose name escapes me except for the fact that it started with an “M”. So I shall call her Ms. M and she will be my reservation CM and I will hug her and love her because she is my Ms. M. I tell her I would like to book a reservation and give her my dates and she asks where I would like to stay. I proudly announce the CR. She checks for availability and whaddya know! It’s available, and it’s a monorail resort too (she informs me). Well obviously it’s a monorail resort I think to myself (unknowing there are other resorts that are also monorail resorts….poor misguided me). So she gives me the grand total (which I don’t remember) and it did not match the grand total I had on my wonderful Disney website print-out quote.

So after my brief pause :faint: of speechlessness I say “Hmmm really? Can you check the price for another resort?”
“Sure!” Ms. M says in her perky southern accent (meanwhile probably thinking badly of me for asking to book a reservation without knowing how much it would be)
“Can you see if there’s anything available for the Beach Club for the same dates?” I ask.
“Let me just check. Tappity tappity tappity. There is nothing available for those dates at that resort.”
What?! (I think) How is this possible? It’s 4 months out! It’s already booked?!?!
“Well how about the Yacht Club?” I ask.
Tappity tappity tappity. “Yes there are rooms available. Would you like to book there.”
“How much would that one be?” I ask in my sweetest yes I can surely afford the Yacht Club voice.
Ms. M then gives me some huge amount, but not the ginormous amount of the CR.
I have a mini panic attack :scared1: and my heart does a little fluttering thing telling my brain is she crazy?
So I sweetly say “Thank you, I will call back as soon as I talk to my party about the cost.”
“Sure, and thank you for calling WDW.”
I don’t even get a Have a Magical Day…..sheesh.pixiedust:

Hi figment. I love figment too! I've bought all the classic DVDs for my future children too!! ;) In the meantime I get to cherish them.

Thank you all for reading. I'll post the next installments as soon as I get home.

By this time it’s the end of January beginning of February and I am now doing endless panicky research and my friend Yani has officially dropped out of the trip. Back to the Disney Website I go. I navigate my way and look for specials, check out how exactly a family of four (since we are a party of four) can afford a Disney Vacation for $1600.

But I don’t want to stay at a Value Resort!

I want the pools with awesome slides and sand bottom pools and walking distance to Epcot/MGM or a monorail hop away from MK. What to do, what to do.

I’m a Florida resident shouldn’t a Disney trip be cheaper for me? Waaaahhh!!!

Ok back to the drawing board. I go on my trusty Google and search cheap Disney and discover Mousesavers and other various websites on how to do Disney on a budget. I decide to do a quote for the Beach Club through Small World Vacations because it says that they can get discounts and what not. I am sent an email with the contact to my personal TA and she contacts me with a quote that is slightly cheaper than what the Disney website gave me because by now there’s a promo code for the free PH/WP&More I didn’t know about. I’m told that the Beach Club is unavailable, but the Yacht Club is, so I book that and pay my deposit. And all was good in the world.:wizard:

One night the heavens decide to be merciful and I am shown the way to the DIS. I clicked on a link for an Ultimate Guide e-book for $20 that talks about deals and information on doing Disney on a budget. So I decide to go for it pay for my e-book and read most of it in one sitting.:surfweb: I find out about renting DVC and the ebook provides a link on how to do that. Oh what a beautiful link it is to the DIS rent/trade board. :goodvibes I soon wander to the top of the link to all the other areas that I can click on and the world of the DIS unfolds before my very eyes. OMG!! What a wonderful little world I have stumbled upon. I hug my computer and ask it where has this site been hiding all this time? Unfortunately it is too late to even think about doing a DVC renting option, but that’s ok, I’ve got my ressie already and all is good. So a reading the DIS I go.:disrocks:

I learn about ADRs and I voraciously read which restaurants are the best and I lurk around in the boards and read as much as I can. So I finally decide to call WDW Dining with my list of favored restaurants handy and ready to make my ADRs. By this time I am --as I soon find out from reading another trip report (shout out to Sorul82)—a OCDP (obsessive compulsive Disney Planner). I have made excel spreadsheets and itineraries and timed the parades and how long it will take to get from point A to point B. Yes, I am in full OCDP mode. So I call and get pretty decent ressies for all the places I want and all is still well in the world.:wizard:

Remember how I told you about my friend Yani deciding she couldn’t go because she was going to be in finals that week? Well it is about this time (end of February) that she decides to withdraw from her classes and re-join us for the Disney Trip. I’m happy and slightly miffed at the same time because I was pretty much done with all my OCDP, but I do want her to go.

Luckily the Yacht club sleeps 5, so I call up my TA at Small World and inform her about the add-on and what not and ask for the new price quote.

What? What? What?! :faint: I’ve officially gone over what I had budgeted by at least $1000. I let her add my friend though since I’ve already paid the deposit I still don’t have to pay in full.

Then I call all my ADRs to add a fifth person. What a mission.:headache: I had to re-arrange things around because by this time the restaurants seem to be getting pretty full and it’s harder to get tables at good times for a party of 5. I eventually get everything worked out fine and all my ADRs rearranged.

At the back of my mind I have the cost bothering me and I start getting Panicky and the logical non-Disney obsessed tiny baby Jiminy Cricket piece of my brain starts telling me that I’m spending way too much money for this Disney Vacation.

So my logical self prevails and I check out the Disney site to quote a moderate resort and it comes back to my budget level. So I contact my TA and ask her if I could get a room only discount (since I’m a Florida resident and all) or if there was a cheaper resort. She tells me the same thing I had found on the Disney site for Port Orleans. I tell her to give me a second to get back to her. I pull out my trusty Vacation Planning DVD to look at Port Orleans again, to make sure I like it and do some minor research on the DIS about it (I love the search engine). I then decide that I like Port Orleans so I contact my TA and she gets back to me with the bad news that Port Orleans is no longer available.:sad2: What? What? What?! But how? So the only thing left is the Contemporary and the Grand Floridian, both way out of my budget and more than my current YC ressies.

Side Note: I forgot to mention how I messed up my ressie. I originally made reservations from April 16-20th. Then as I’m OCDP my ADRs and counting my TS’s I realize that I have made too many TS’s and cut them down. But then I read on the DIS that the TS on the DDP are per night! Great! Now my last TS which is a character breakfast isn’t even covered. I decide that we should arrive the 15th and leave the 21st instead. So I contact my TA and she finagled my ressie to add 1 day before and 1 day after, but I’d have to check-in & out those days to match up with my original ressie and it was a total PIA.

So I spend the weekend willing the Disney site to give me something cheaper than what I currently have. Because we are 5 now, not even the Values are an option and they seemed all booked too. I start thinking of renting DVC, but I don’t know how and I start asking questions and reading and researching:surfweb: all over the DIS and give myself a crash course on DVC renting. Even asking for help from fellow DISers. I had one beautiful DISer suggest the Family Suites at the All Stars ( thank you minnie61) which sounded like the answer to all my problems, but when I checked for it, it came up as unavailable. :guilty:

But lo and behold early that Monday morning I get home from work and my endless hoping that the Disney site will give me an option for something other than the GF and CR. What does it show me? A suite at the All Stars Music!!! Wooohooo!!! So I call my TA and tell her about it and she got it and she booked (but I ended up losing my Free WP & More promo because that room doesn’t get discounts:sad1: ). Sure fine, whatever and I was back on budget with my vacation, in a slightly bigger room. Yes it is a Value resort but that's fine at this point I'm just happy to be staying onsite. :::whew:::pixiedust:

So I finally got the resort thing settled. Everyone is back on board. We had to do some switches at work to make sure everyone could go on the new dates. I re-did some ADRs (cut them down even more and rearranging them). Things are well. The next steps were:
Crocs – DC’s friend can get us a discount at the store she works (we soon discover it’s all Men’s sizes and we decide to just order them online)
Disney Shirts – short trip to Disney store and Disney outlet ($5.99 Disney shirts you can’t beat that! They were limited though so I ended up ordering some from Disney Shopping)
LGMH – no prob because my DB works at Home Depot (wooohooo!),:cool1:
Cute Bags to carry our stuff and snacks – Found some on clearance at Target
Oh and Pins! I've decided I want to try this pin trading thing that everyone seems to be talking about. So I spend a ridiculous amount on ebay (I didn't mean to, I just got carried away with all the cute pins....honest:angel: ).

We also needed to get a rental car because we’re driving up from Miami and we do not want to put more miles on our cars. I research the prices and faint :faint: from the sticker shock. Decide to try Priceline, but it did not like me and none of my offers were accepted. :sad2: Then discovered a semi cheap rate from Thrifty so got the rental out of the way. FYI: Rental Car Customer Service Numbers have no clue about promotions online.

I’ve also signed up to adopt a cute little croc while in the World. :thumbsup2

I accidentally posted the same thing twice.....

Move down Move down move down...move down!

The next post has pics!

I (well with the influence of my friends) decide that going to Disney is not enough so in the middle of all my Disney planning I was invited to go to that Other Park’s:ssst: Mardi Gras.:jester: Sure I say! Why not!? Sounds like fun. Well it was, so the weekend before we leave to Disney we drive up:car: to Orlando and visit that other park and do Mardi Gras Orlando style and get to see Daughtry (hottie!)…even if we did only see him on a big screen. It was fun and the short weekend was fun to briefly take my mind off of Disney.

According to my countdown we are officially in single digits and I can officially press 1 if I will be Dining with Disney within 7 days. :cool1: Of course I’m reading a certain Pre-TR by the same name (which is excellent if you haven’t read it). Also coveting certain DL vacationers TR at the same time.

Not to worry because I’ve now decided that I will be buying AP’s for WDW. You see I will be visiting the World again in June because another cousin is coming down with her kidlets and they’ve never been to WDW either so of course OCDP extraordinaire that I am has decided to accompany them and my mommy who will be celebrating her birthday around that time on another trip. This trip BTW is already planned.:rolleyes1 So being the savvy DISer that I am, ADRs are done, I have a pending DVC reservation and all we’d need to do is buy tickets when we get there.

Plus I’ve also decided that since I was left out of Ppirate: &Pprincess: in the beginning of the year and Disney is so kind to offer it again in August that I decided I must do that too! So I’m already in the stages of planning that one. I’ve already got the ADRs for that one done.

Then of course Disney has announced free Dining, but I don’t know if I'll be able to make a trip in September because I would like to go to MNSSHP and MVMCP in early November. Yes I know obsessed!

Of course all my beautiful planning was fine until Tuesday.:scared:

So as I'm reading the Disboards just browsing and getting more into the spirit for my trip by reading others' TR's I stumble across someone commenting on how they used TGM and it helped them bypass a lot of waiting in lines during the crowded month. This was very interesting for me because I was always reading other people's horror stories on how crowded:crowded: the parks have been this month. So I was getting more worried:worried: on how bad the crowds were going to be.

So I went ahead and clicked on the TGM banner, got my discount:woohoo: and to my dismay, my beautiful lovely itenerary had a ginormous flaw:scared:. So I panicked did some replanning and got on the phone with Disney Dining and had the luxury of pressing 1!! :cloud9: (Although I honestly don't think by pressing it got me connected to a CM faster). Then again Disney had announced it's Free Dining by this time to the Disney Visa cardholders.

I got all my ADR's rearranged, ended up paying OOP for Priority Seating at the Luau (which I didn't care because now we're closer to the show and it kinda balanced out because we would've been paying for 2 TS OOP anyway).

So here are my official ADRs now:

Sunday--Arrival Day: Dinner at Raglan Rd
Monday: Princess Storybook Lunch at Akershus
Tuesday: Supercalifragilistic Breakfast at 1900 Park Fare
Spirit of Aloha Luau (OOP)
Wednesday: Crystal Palace Breakfast
Thursday: Mama Melrose Late Lunch/Dinner Fantasmic Package
Friday: Donald's Breakfastosaurus

So now I'm officially done with the trip planning! :cool1:

I still hadn't packed yet though. :scared:

0 days until your Ultimate Disney Vacation! Yay for You! :yay: Have fun! Cant wait to hear the trip report!

Yaaa:cheer2: Its trippie/arrival day!!! Hope you having a great time! Here's some extra pixie dustpixiedust:
