I learn a lot following the training of some of the best athletes in my sport, race walking and similar sports like running and ultra marathoning. One of the cornerstones of all the best athletes, who are at the top of their game, is the ability to turn desire into reality.

There is an old saying that you can't hit a target that you can't see. That is true for training and improving as an adult athlete. You have to know where you want to be and you have to believe you can get there. You have to want it and need it.

Nyle, who has won gold in the world masters competition twice now said that you have to get out of your comfort zone and do your training instead of making excuses. Justifing your lack of training because: it's to hot, it's to cold, I'm to tired.....the list is endless but it all boils down to get it done, excuses don't make you hard and strong, training does.

A lot of our group will be doing their first half marathon, full marathon and even Goofy challenge this January. Right now is when you earn your medal. It's the training you do that makes it happen not the training you wish you had done.

Train hard, but train smart and listen to your body. Get plenty of good quality rest and practice good nutrition and hydration.

Good luck everyone let's rock races this January!!

I needed this today.. My running is like a rollercoaster, some days I feel and do great. other times I fall apart and can barely even get a mile out before I fall apart
