Hi,
I don't see alot of discussion here about videocameras, but I am STRUGGLING with trying to decide between the Panasonic PV GS85 and the Sony DCR HC28. Do any of you have any advice or experience with these two types of cameras? - or is there another video cam under $300 you would suggest? I am looking for a well-working basic videocam that will produce clear, colorful video. The image stabilizer in the panasonic is supposed to be great, but night vision better in sony??? Not sure which is more important... night vision used only at night whereas image stabilization needed every time you use camera.... so, anyway... if anyone has any opinions, I would love to hear them. Thanks!!

I have the Sony DCR HC28. I bought it because our old video camera was really old, the old one still worked, but seemed to drain the battery too fast. The Sony is fine, but I wouldn't say that it's spectacular or anything. I think I was expecting much more since my old video camera was around ten years old, it's better than my old camera, but I had thought it would be even better. I've only used the camera indoors though, so I can't comment on outside situations. It does stay charged for an hour, so it's at least twice as long as I was able to video before, so that's good. :)

I don't know if you've done it yet, but if you google the camera name and reiews it'll show a lot of sites that have personal reviews about the cameras. I had an older Sony and I have newer Panasonic. I prefer the Image Stabalization over the night vision. I'm not sure what the night vision looks likes now in Sony's camcorders, but the one I had made everything look green and white, so that wasn't much use to me in taking family videos.
