Panasonic Lumix TZ5

Hi all

I'm new to this Photography board and can usually be found on the Disneyland Paris forum.

I have a Panasonic Lumix TZ5 (bought it in October - and I had a Sony Cybershot DSC-P200 before that). I love taking pictures (my camera goes everywhere with me) but I'm just a "point and shoot" person really. I have been trying out different techniques (like trying to get a blurry background etc) but haven't been successful so far. I have read the instruction manual but still seem to be a bit confused by the shutter speed/aperture "numbers" or figures.

Do any of you have this camera? If so, can you please give me some pointers perhaps? I'm off to Disneyland Paris next Thursday and would really love to get some great pictures of the Fantillusion parade at night (with lights etc). Which setting should I use?

Would be grateful for any help.

Good news is that Panasonic makes the best point and shoot cameras! I have the panasonic DMC FZ28, but I just bought it myself and I'm just as lost as you. There was a great thread over on the theme parks board that had some advice. Unfortunately, that post seems to have disappeared. I'm sure someone will chime in here to give you loads of advice.

I have the TZ5 as well and am having some difficulty figuring out all the different setting too. Hopefully someone will come along to help .

I have the TZ5, and to be perfectly honest, I haven't had the time to read the owner's manual yet.

However, I'm having good results by using the "Intelligent Auto" setting. 95% of the time, it picks the right setting. I only seem to have problems with it when it's dim, and there's a backlight. Last night we went to see a Christmas light display, and I got some pretty nice shots of the lights using that setting.

I just posted, but just thought of a neat thing to mention.

Near the shutter release, there's a tiny button labeled "E. Zoom". If you push it once, the camera automatically zooms out to 10x optical. If you push it again, the extra zoom engages to 16x (but this reduces the resolution to 3MP). If you push it a 3rd time, the zoom retracts completely. I find this feature pretty handy.

I'm using the IA mode with my panasonic and I totally agree. It does a great job at picking the right setting.
