Panama Canal - onboard activities

Has there ever been a Panama Canal cruise that was remotely close to when kids might be out of school? I'd love to go, but I don't know if I would want to go without the kids.

Don't think so. PC, CC, and TA are repo cruises. They are moving the ships to the moneymaking sailings. Those don't change. But hey, I could be wrong!

There was once a PC repo in August, I think it was the first one ever? Like 2008? Stories about it here are epic, with prices going up by the minute as people were on hold trying to book it.

Okay I'm glad I'm reading this thread. My friends and I are taking this cruise (EBPC) and I'm a little worried that we will be bored, we might want to throw each other overboard (2 weeks with your friends sharing one room is a long time), or that... it'll just feel like too long.

How busy were the laundry areas? That was one thing we keep thinking about, thinking that we're going to need to do laundry at some point.

We went on the eastbound Panama Canal cruise in September. I loved it -- had a great time. My second favorite cruise overall after the westbound transatlantic I did 2011, I love love love the long cruises. They're so relaxing.

Because The cruise is so long the laundry room is very popular. Having said that I don't think I had any problems on the PC cruise. Maybe I went once and all the machines were full but I just came back a little later. Keep in mind that even though everyone does laundry there lots of sea days so it's spread out. On a weeklong cruise everyone's trying to do it on the two or three sea days you have. On the repos they have six or seven sea days to choose from.

One thing about the Panama Canal cruise it is very hot and very humid on deck. I think that is one of the reasons I like the transatlantic better. Of course going through the canal is a truly unique experience.

I went with my two boys ages six and nine. They attend a year-round school and we had most of September off. There were plenty of kids on the cruise for them to play with but not so many that the ship was crowded. Our Tablemates had two kids about the same ages as mine. They were missing school and the older child spent quite a bedtime on the ship doing homework.

Next cruise is another transatlantic on the magic. Loved it so much I have to do it again!

It was August 2005 and we were on it. It was a great trip. "normal" amount of kids and they all seemed to have a great time. Canal Transit day was awesome, and the kids and cruise staff had a great time together.

The captain would point out wildlife along the way. Once he made an announcement of some Brown ****y's (birds). Well EVERY comedian after that day had a joke about the captain and the brown ****ies at the pool.

DCL had "additional" cruise staff on this cruise and some of the cruise staff were also main stage performers. Since there were "so many" dinners, princesses and prince's and other characters made appearances in the dinning rooms - but they were not "character dining" - more of a show.

All of the crew on that cruise did a fantastic job of keeping us entertained and informed.
