Pampered Chef Question - Grill Mats

I haven't been to a PC party in at least 15 years. My niece is having one on FB. I'm trying to find something to buy. We recently bought a new grill, so I was thinking of getting the grill mat for one thing. https://www.pamperedchef.com/pws/chelsierathbone/shop/Outdoor/Grilling/Grill+Mat+&+Tray/1808 https://www.pamperedchef.com/pws/chelsierathbone/shop/$10_00+&+Under/Grill+Mat+Set/2146 Is the tray absolutely necessary for use on the grill? I'd rather order just the mats, unless I need the tray. For one thing, I'd rather have two mats than one. For another, I don't expect to order from another party for many more years. Without being able to replace the mats, the tray would eventually become useless. That said, I'll order the tray set, if it's necessary for grill usage.

The first link the video shows them being used without the tray and the second one says in the description you can use them without it.

The pictures appear that it is a solid surface so there is nowhere for the liquids to drain. I think you will end up with soggy vegetables or whatever type of food you might cook on it. Seems it would work better if it was perforated in some way to allow for drainage. Haven't used that product, but there are several types of baskets made for use on the grill for delicate food like fish as well as vegetables that allow for easy turning for even cooking and facilitate browning of the food.

I think any flare-ups during cooking would exceed 500 degrees and cause that product to melt or scorch.

Thanks. Obviously, I never watch videos, but should. Between the description & the reviews, I wasn't sure about the mats. I do have a major headache, so I probably read it wrong. At least, that's my excuse. :o

Thanks for the reply. I'm really only ordering to help her, so I haven't spent much time looking around the site. There may be something that would work better. As I said above, this isn't a good night for me to be looking, so I'm trying to find something we may use as quickly as possible.

Do you have their Apple slicer? Mine is probably 20 years old and still going strong. I also like their scoops. Both have held up forever, no rust or signs of wear.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll look for those things. I don't even remember what I've bought from them in the past, so I seriously doubt I still have any of it.

We BBQ and use our Smoker a lot. These have no appeal to me at all. We have a number of Pampered Chef items, but when it comes to BBQ they are not great IMHO. I do agree with @wenrob that some of their small handheld items are very good. Their rubber spatulas hold up well for fry pans. Their chopper is a great deal, with the base it makes it very easy to use and clean. Their Scoop Loop is great for Green peppers.

On a side note if you want to get something for your grill for veggies the best one I've found comes from Weber.

Thanks for the suggestions. I'll check them out & look into the Weber tray.
