Been a while since we have experienced Palo. I know that the dress code is different but also know that things have relaxed in the MDR's. Thought I read you can't wear flip flops but I have some dressy ones I wear with capris so is this acceptable? Is it just shorts/bathing suits that are obviously not appropriate?

Also, how does tipping work here? Thanks

From the DCL website:

Dress to Impress
To preserve the elegant atmosphere, you are asked to adhere to a strict dress code when dining at Palo. Dress pants and shirt are required for men and a dress or pantsuit is required for women. Please no jeans, shorts, capri pants, flip-flops or tennis shoes.

And:
Q.Is there an expected amount for gratuities, and how should I pay them?
A.It is customary to give gratuities in recognition of exceptional service, which you’ll receive in abundance aboard the ship. The following amounts are provided as a suggestion, but the gratuity you pay is always at your discretion:

Or do you mean "Can I just add tip to final bill?" You can do that, or tip in cash.

Oh. Wasn't the gratuity once included in the Palo surcharge? Back when the Palo surcharge was $15 or 20?
Well, it was never really confirmed that it was. But some more experienced DCL cruisers said that about $5.00 went to the server. But, even then, you could tip additionally, if you wanted to.

Can you wear docker type pants or nice grey casual pants (hard to explain, but they are the mountain equipment coop/ no iron/ wrinkle free type light material that mountaineering pants are made out of) yet they are casual/dressy looking for men

For dinner? Can't say, as I don't know what they look like.

For brunch it may be acceptable.

They are plain and grey, lightweight, no creases. I think we will take our chances as he does not wear dress pants
ps... he was also planning on wearing a nice short sleeved dress shirt, this dress code is beginning to stress me out a tad!

Thanks everyone!, I should have clarified this is for BRUNCH...I know I wore dressy capris with very dressy flip flop type sandals years ago....is it really that strict for brunch??? A pantsuit doesn't seem a whole lot different than a dressy top with dressy capris to me and I don't think I want to wear a dress since I will be wearing them a lot in the MDR's. Wonder what people have been wearing for brunch lately?

The dress code does say "no capris or flip-flops". There are some people who have reported being able to do brunch while wearing capris. My personal experience is that I've seen people turned away wearing capris.

My suggestion is to have something to fall back on, if you are not allowed in wearing your capris/flip-flops.

I might piggy-back on this thread to ask a similar question - what does Disney classify as "tennis shoes"?

This isn't really a term we use in Australia. Would it include Converse sneakers?

Also, are capri pants just 3/4 length chinos? So, full-length chinos are acceptable, but 3/4 length are not?

Yes. In the US tennis shoes= sneakers, running shoes, basketball shoes, cross trainers, etc. Technically capris are any 3/4 pants.

I've worn linen capris every time I've gone to Palo brunch.
Yes, some people have been able to get in wearing capris. But, it's not guaranteed, as the dress requirements do say not.

I'm just saying - have something for back up, in case PP does get turned away.

Why would you want to put the poor employee working the desk of having to tell you that you can't dine there when you already know that the dress code states no flip flops and no capris?
Exactly. I've worn flip flops before but mine are dressy flip flops and look more like sandals. I have seen people turned away for regular flip flops. I don't even own capris. I always wear a dress or a top/skirt.

There is zero chance I would be comfortable telling a man that those would be OK for Palo. I'd go on my own rather than walk in with someone with those on. If you can get it at REI, it shouldn't be worn at Palo.

IMO.

And I get that your'e talking about brunch. We've done brunch (DH wore Dockers and a buttondown long sleeved shirt with nice shoes) and dinner (DH wore his suit).

The key to nice clothes is to get them so they fit well and are just as comfortable as REI clothing. It's possible; you just have to try to do it.
