Ok, I read some good reviews about Pal Mickey and wanted some people I trust to tell me what they know. The Pal Mickey sounds like fun, does anyone have any experience with it? My boys are 9 and 5.
Are there any DVC discounts for it?

Thanks!

When they were first introduced years ago DVC members got a coupon for a free trial rental. As far as I know there are no current Pal Mickey discounts for DVCers.

We bought a Pal Mickey in January '06. We had our 12 year old niece with on the trip, and she enjoyed Pal Mickey a lot. He kept us all entertained. We've brought him back with us on our last 2 trips, but he ended up sitting in the stroller most of the time, and we pretty much ignored him every time he giggled. It's difficult to pause and listen to what he has to say, when you're trying to keep tabs on small children. I think when our kids are older (DS's are 1 & 4), we'll get more use out of him again. Your 9 year old will probably enjoy it. If you plan to use it year after year, I think it's a good buy, but I wouldn't get one for just one trip. HTH.

If they sell them at World of Disney @ DTD and you have an AP, you can get a 10% discount.

Bought for my 2 1/2 year old son and 1yr, Niece and 3yr niece and nephew. Sounded like a great idea, but not really used that much. For what it's worth. Vince

We bought ours when they first came out and use it every trip. One year when we had adjoining rooms with our daughter and grandaughter we left Mickey in the room and when we came back to the room he was gone and a ransom note was left in his place. We had to slip $20 under the door to the adjoining room and leave for an hour in order to get him back. Needless to say we made sure to take him with us every time after that.

I don't know what Pal Mickey is, but I am assuming it is a carry along dispatcher of information. Sounds pretty cool.

a couple years ago for our kids to share. He went everywhere with us on that trip, and they loved him so much we wound up buying another one so each of the boys (ages 9 & 12) would have their own. We definitely didn't anticipate the older ds liking him as much as he did. From time to time one of the kids will get Mickey out at home and put batteries in him and we all get a Disney fix playing the games & singing the songs, and then he goes back in the closet for awhile. Our dd, now 5, always wants her brothers' so she got one for Christmas. He lives on her bed and she plays with him a lot. He's anxiously awaiting his first trip home in 2 months!

So, all that to say he's definitely a hit here.

My son loved the pal Mickey, and I am sure my daughter will as well...it can be a bit of a pain when every time it talks you have to hold it up to your ear to hear it and everything stops....but he seemed to really enjoy it

We have three--one for each kid. We got ours from the one of the Disney outlets (Character Premier, maybe?) for $13.00 each and they were brand new (we were not in FL at the time. Read about the amazing sale here on the DIS, called the store and they shipped them to us). For this price--totally worth it. For the $70 price tag, not a chance.

It is a very cute stuffed Mickey that plays games and tells jokes when not in the parks, so that is why I say it is worth the low price--just an average stuffed animal price.

However, for park touring...(1) it is one more thing to carry around. And while our kids love theirs, they were forever leaving them somewhere. (2) You cannot hear it very well when it gives information. You have to stop walking and put him up closer to your face so you can hear what he is saying.

That being said, we still bring them each trip, though the last time I think only to the parks one day. If you buy a used one or an older version one new through the outlet, just go to WoD in DTD and they will update it with all of the newest data.

Yup - for us Pal Mickey stopped being fun when we stopped renting a stroller. Between lanyards, and water-bottles, and fannypacks, there's only so much that's fun to tote around without a stroller basket to dump it all in.

That said - we had some fun trips with Pal Mickey and we've lent him to just about everyone in our church for their trips. I actually think my mother got the biggest kick out him - so I'd say he was worth buying.

Pal Mickey was one of the best things about our first WDW trip in November. We were lucky enough to buy one at Property Control for $10. Can't wait to take him again this year!

we snagged the deal too! only problem with the older version is he's not quite as loud, i have a hard time hearing him (of course it might be my aging ears ruined by years of concerts lol)

He ceased to function last trip, CM told me to head to the store on Main Street (VR). I asked if he could be updated as to the new rides:sad2: ; however, they did get him working again! Guess i'll have to try @ DTD & perhaps i'll have better luck?

fyi, he is handy as to announcements as to which rides have short wait lines:thumbsup2

disturbingly, for those who don't want to lug him around, i've heard scary tales of decapitation:rotfl:

That sounds familiar.

My wife bought one about 2 years ago. During that trip she wouldn't let it go. The next trip Mickey made it to the parks 3 or 4 times. The subsequent 2 trips he hasn't left the hotel room.

It really can be useful and fun, but unless you're really in the mood for it PM is just another thing to hang from your belt (or in the stroller bag.)

We bought my son and niece a Pal Mickey each when they were both five. My son loves jokes and was constantly repeating what Pal Mickey had told him! My niece was into the princesses and didn't really care about PM.

We have brought him on all our trips, but (just as most people have said) he spends increasingly more time in the backpack or hotel room. My son still pulls him out from time to time though.

However, he has heard that they now have something for your Nintendo DS that you can use at the parks and thinks that would be "way cooler" than Pal Mickey. You might way and see if this becomes widely available and save yourself the $$ of having to buy both! (That is if your sons are gamers like mine is) :)

never heard of it for DSpopcorn:: any details?

ha, did a search & found info, it's in testing phase @ MK, software/DS, etc., interesting although i'd hate to see kids not be able to put down their game systems for even WDW lol

Why are updates needed for the new rides? I thought it (he?) downloaded up to date info when you went into the parks? :confused3

Looking one on e-bay right now and thinking it would be great for the GC's in April.
