Pal Mickey???

I have never heard of this and I just read about it in one of the disney guides that I have bought? This is such a cool idea but can anyone tell me how well it actually works? Does it drive you insane? And do you think it would be worth the money? We are travelling without kids just the two of us so it may be more of a "kid" thing and I was just wondering if it would be useful for two adults?

We've had ours since he was first introduced sevveral years ago.

We (2 adults) bring him back, trip-after-trip.

He's a fun little traveling companion.

$65 + tax at WDW for the latest version (Version 3) dressed as the Sorcerer's Apprentice.

We got one for our trip last year in April and really had fun with it. It's a little hard to hear him sometimes so my husband wound up clipping him onto his backpack strap so it looked like Mickey was sort of riding on his shoulder - then he could feel him bounce around and hear him talk. The kids had fun with Pal Mickey in the hotel room - he tells jokes and sings songs, and they really enjoyed that. We plan on taking him back with us in December.

Listening to Mickey never gets old, I even like to hear his corny jokes, over and over again.

I find he works pretty well. Sometimes he is hard to hear. Sometimes he'll spout random information not relevent to where you are. But on the whole I think he's amazing.

Pal Mickey can provide you with information that even the most established Disney historians might not know about. A lot of the information he provides is very interesting.

One downside is that he can't be updated the next time you visit WDW - you'll have to buy a new one or have potentially outdated information. For instance, if Toy Story Mania isn't open when you visit the first time, he won't provide you any information about it because he doesn't have any. When you visit the next year, even if Toy Story Mania is open, he still won't have any information about it because he wasn't originally programmed with it.

With that being said, it is up to you to decide if you think he's a good deal or not. Yes, he does provide some great information, and yes, he is fun, but is it really worth $70 for something that might be outdated the next time you return to the parks?

My sister (27) and I (23) bought one for our brother (12) when it was the 100 Year Anniversary. He was dressed in his little Tux. When we went this last summer we bought the outfits for him and changed him to go with what park we were heading to that day. He is a lot of fun and adds a lot to the trip. He gives you good information. If you want to add some extra 'magic' to your trip, you should get one!!

I am not sure it was at the time since it was purchased for DS3.5. In retrospect we probably should have waited a few years to get him one. But he still enjoys bringing him along and it doesn't really bother me that I don't have the most up to date edition.

This is a question MANY non-Disney folks actually ask about the entire idea of vacationing at WDW.

Everyone must make these kind of judgements based on their own needs and interests.

We bought one on ebay last year to take with us. My kids liked him the first day, but after that, no one wanted to hold him. My husband clipped him to his belt for a day or two. He was hard to hear in the parks. He stayed in our room the majority of the trip. I ended up selling it on ebay. I would not buy it again. You can always buy it on ebay, and then sell it when you are done, if you kids aren't going to use it. I think I only lost about $5. So that isn't bad.

Depends Depends Depends

If you are a total Disney nut like myself then yea, he's worth the money, as long as purchasing him isn't a hardship and within your trip budget.

If you are not a Disney nut and you are primarily purchasing him for your child you have to decide whether or not you child will fully appreciate your pal. If your child is young and really won't know the difference between pal and another talking stuffed Mickey, then I would say no. If you have an older child who will fully appreciate and understand how "special" pal is and would really like an interactive Mickey, then yea maybe so.

IMHO, yes. But here's why he was so worth it to my family:

1. I love Mickey. He's very adorable!
2. He kept the kids thoroughly entertained our whole trip.
3. He was a great babysitter while waiting for things like Fantasmic to start - he fascinated all of the kids around us, too.
4. You can dress him up. Seriously! And he gets a lot of attention from people when he is! Here's a fun website dedicated to Pal Mickey. If anything, it's a blast to read! Here we are with Chef Mickey, with Pal Mickey in a matching outfit that I made (even though it's kinda hard to see!):
   
   
   

Yeah, it's true that he can't be updated, but he's so full of information that I doubt that we'll even notice that whenever we do happen to take our next trip to WDW. Even DH, who isn't into gadgety stuff like that, loved him. He also thought that it was one of the best investments we made.

He does not get updated when you enter the park, he gets "a download" basically he finds out where he is and the messages for that particular park are cued up and ready to go, but no new info or sayings can be added. The phrases he comes with are the only phrases he can use.

For us, I purchased one on ebay he was cute and all. But did not live up to my expectations at Disney world. Plus we got tired of carrying him around..

My daughter and her cousin got theirs on a trip last thanksgiving. It was so crowded, that it was hard to hear mickey. They ended up leaving him in the room.

We will be going back next week and plan on taking him. Hopefully durning less crowded times he will work beter.
